Plans are advancing for Finish Line Auto Club’s car-centric self-storage country club development at 17600 N. Perimeter Center Dr. in north Scottsdale.
The company officially acquired the location, formerly the Fender Musical Instruments Corporation headquarters, for $20.7M from Tryperion Holdings. Fender has since relocated its headquarters to the PV development (also known as PV Reimagined) on the former Paradise Valley Mall site in Phoenix.
A local news outlet cited Finish Line representatives saying demolition of the former Fender building is planned to start within the next 60 days. A groundbreaking is planned for the end of this summer, and opening could happen in Q1 2028.
The Scottsdale Planning Commission recommended approval of the overall project last October, with City Council voting in favor in November. The company requested approval of the site plan and elevations for a single building on the west side of the property this February.
According to the February submittal, “The proposed site plan revises the previously approved development by focusing on the west half of the original 11+-acre property. This updated plan proposes a single, larger building for mainly a storage type building use. Access will continue to be provided from Pacesetter Way utilizing two driveways maintaining safe and efficient vehicular circulation for this low-traffic use. The building layout is designed to orient toward N. Pacesetter Way to the west, with ‘back-of-house’ operations on the east side of the Property. The plan retains key site features from the prior approval, including shared internal drive aisles with the property to the south, sidewalks, and pedestrian pathways to promote connectivity throughout the development.”
Scottsdale officials were quoted in the article as saying the development review is being submitted in phases and some revisions are in process.
The overall plan is to construct a 140KSF, five-building auto storage club with a 20KSF clubhouse. The garages will be individually sold, with the car condos ranging from 1KSF to 3KSF. Some units will be able to be combined to create larger spaces, if needed.
All units will have mezzanine floors, climate control and plumbing.
The clubhouse will have a coffee shop, an upstairs lounge and meeting areas, as well as a gym. Members will have around-the-clock access.
Construction is planned in two phases, starting with three buildings totaling 100KSF. One of those buildings will be the clubhouse.
The design firm and general contractor is LGE Design Build.
