Fiscal years 2027-2036 could see more than $1.7B in infrastructure projects under the Capital Improvement Plan approved this month by the Gilbert Town Council.
Roughly $1.2B of the funding is carried forward for projects already planned and underway, with approximately $540M planned in new funding.
Water infrastructure counts as the main planning component, reaching more than $2B over the longer-term planning window. Street improvements and traffic management, municipal facilities, and parks and recreation projects round out the suite.
Several major projects were specifically discussed in the May 19 Council meeting as points of focus in the coming year.
These include Phase I of the Advocacy Center, which is under construction and should deliver this fall, and the North Water Treatment Plant, which is expected to begin operation this summer.
Key streets in Gilbert—including Higley, Lindsay, Warner, Val Vista, Power and Pecos roads—are all targeted for various improvements.
Ever a leading focal point for the Town, redevelopment projects in the areas around the Heritage District, and the District itself, are prominent and include the Vaughn Avenue Connector and improvements to Water Tower Way.
Public facilities and safety projects include expanding the Public Safety Center, renovating fire stations and building a crime lab.
How the projects are funded depends on their type. Transportation and water projects are primarily supported through bonds, and quality-of-life projects a generally funded via sales tax revenues.
Councilmember Yung Koprowski recused herself from the vote, as her company might be involved as a qualified Town vendor with some of the projects in the future once she leaves Council. The remaining members all voted to approve the CIP. (Source)
