    Awards & Accolades

    1. Terracon, in collaboration with the Flood Control District of Maricopa County and general contractor Rummel Construction, received the APWA Arizona Project of the Year award in the “Environment, Less Than $5M” category for the Durango Campus Landscape and Water Conservation Retrofit in Phoenix.

    Groundbreakings

    2. Cunningham Aviation has broken ground at Falcon Field, 4906 E. Falcon Dr. in Mesa, on an expansion adding three aircraft hangar buildings and a two-story Fixed Base Operations facility.

    3. Modus Development will break ground in November on Papago Village, a $60.2M Build-to-Rent community at 6200 E. Oak St. in Scottsdale. The homes will range from 850SF to 1.3KSF. Bolte Construction is the general contractor. David Dick Architect Inc. is the architect. Completion is slated for May 2027.

    4. Officials broke ground on a $325M commercial port of entry in Douglas, designed by Jones Studio. The facility will relocate commercial vehicle inspections from the Raul Hector Castro Port of Entry, which will continue serving private vehicles and pedestrians. Completion is expected by September 2028.

    5. Mesa began construction Sept. 3 on Fire Station 224, a $12.3M facility at 3441 S. 80th St. funded by the 2022 Public Safety Bond Initiative. The project is expected to be completed by fall 2026. CORE Construction is the general contractor and Architekton is the architect.

    Progress Reports

    6. GMH Communities and Medistar, with Multistudio, are nearing completion of the Phoenix Central Station redevelopment in downtown Phoenix. The 1MSF project features a 22-story, 655-bed student housing tower that has already begun serving residents. It also includes a 33-story, 338-unit apartment tower with 7% workforce housing, 70KSF of office space, 30KSF of retail and restaurant space and a new transit hub that integrates light rail and buses. Bus service will resume on Oct. 27, with the full opening planned for November.

    7. The Arizona Department of Transportation reached the halfway point on the $106M I-40/US 93 interchange in Kingman. The project will deliver a free-flowing connection with six miles of new and widened roadway, multiple bridge improvements and new sound walls. Completion is expected in 2027.

    8. Trilogy Investment Co. and Cimbra Partners unveiled Rēv3 at Encanto West, an 84-unit Build-to-Rent townhome community in Avondale. The project offers three-bedroom, 2.5-bath units with attached garages and private backyards. After roughly 12 months of delays due to permit approvals and utility changes at the property level, initial move-ins are expected this fall.

    Completions

    9. DiamondRock Hospitality Co. and Aimbridge Hospitality completed a $30M transformation of L’Auberge de Sedona, designed by Kollin Altomare Architects, with interiors by Whitespace. 10. Exceptional Healthcare will open Exceptional Community Hospital on Sept. 15 at Sunshine Blvd. off I-10 in Eloy.

    11. KTR will open a 45KSF indoor playground at Cannon Beach, a 37-acre mixed-use development anchored by the Revel Surf Park at 4503 S. Power Road near Warner Road. The venue is expected to open in the coming months.
