Awards & Accolades

1. Maricopa’s 347 Facts Committee received the Arizona Transportation Partnering Excellence Award Sept. 24 at the Arizona Conference on Roads and Streets in Tucson. The award recognizes collaboration among agencies, organizations and communities addressing transportation challenges. The committee’s advocacy for SR 347 improvements helped secure approximately $140M in funding and inclusion of the work in the Arizona Department of Transportation’s five-year construction plan. Initial improvement work began in June.
Groundbreakings
2. Diversified Partners broke ground on The Lakefront at Scottsdale, an approximately 100KSF phased redevelopment of a former single-tenant office property east of Scottsdale Road off McCormick Parkway. The project will convert the site into a mixed-use development with restaurants, retail, Class-A office space and public gathering areas. A.R. Mays Construction is the general contractor and design-assist partner and has been engaged in preconstruction for several months. Demolition is scheduled to begin in early October, with a larger construction scope expected to start in early 2027 after drawings and permitting are complete.
Progress Reports
3. Active construction has begun on the third segment of the 26-mile I-10 Wild Horse Pass Corridor Project between Phoenix and Casa Grande. The 11-mile segment extends from Loop 202 to the Gila River and includes new general purpose and HOV lanes, reconstruction of three interchanges and construction of a new interchange at Koli Road. Work on the first segment began in May 2024, while construction on the second segment started in January. All four segments are expected to be completed by late 2029.
4. EVelution Energy’s planned cobalt processing facility in Tacna cleared a new financing milestone after U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services approved a $64.8M EB-5 fund from Intermestic Capital for investment in the project. Construction of the associated solar power facility began June 30 and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2028. Work on the cobalt processing facility is expected to begin in late 2027, with commercial operations targeted for 2029.
Completions
5. Northrop Grumman opened its new 120KSF A1 building at 1655 W. Elliot Road in Gilbert Spectrum business park. The facility adds office, laboratory, assembly, integration and testing space to the company’s Gilbert campus, which now spans more than 435KSF. Graycor Construction Company was the general contractor, and Balmer Architectural Group was the architect. Approximately 350 employees are relocating from Northrop Grumman’s Chandler campus to the new facility.

6. Marine Corps Air Station Yuma completed the $90M P538 Bachelor Enlisted Quarters building, a 100.8KSF facility designed to house up to 321 military personnel. The project includes 164 two-person rooms and shared support space and replaces aging barracks on the installation. NAVFAC Southwest, Harper Construction and MCAS Yuma project teams delivered the facility as part of the Marine Corps’ Barracks 2030 Initiative.
7. One Camelback is set to welcome its first residents in early October following a seven-year conversion of the former BMO Harris Bank office tower at Central Avenue and Camelback Road in Phoenix. The 11-story building includes 163 apartments and ground-floor commercial space. Kinella Capital acquired the property in late 2025 and completed the remaining work needed to open the building, including common-area, lobby and fitness improvements. The office-to-residential conversion began in 2019 after the building was gutted for redevelopment.
8. Gorman & Company opened The Post at Fort Whipple Veterans Housing in Prescott, delivering 103 affordable permanent-supportive apartments for veterans across two parcels of the Northern Arizona VA Health Care System campus. The project combined the adaptive reuse of six early-1900s officers’ quarters into 23 units with construction of a new four-story, 80-unit building. The Arizona Department of Housing provided $22M in funding, including $19M in Low-Income Housing Tax Credits and $3M in gap financing.
9. Blue Polymers, a partnership of Ravago and Republic Services, completed a new plastics recycling facility in Buckeye Industrial Park. FCL Builders and Butler Design Group served as the design/build team, working under developer Merit Partners. Installation and testing of recycling equipment are underway, with operations expected to begin this fall. The facility will process sorted recyclable plastics into raw materials for new container production.
10. The Arizona Department of Transportation opened the new $44M Flying Fortress Parkway interchange along I-40 in east Kingman. Construction began in December 2024 in partnership with the City of Kingman. The interchange provides more direct access to the Kingman Airport, nearby industrial development and employment centers and is expected to reduce congestion at the I-40/Andy Devine Avenue interchange four miles west.
11. Monarc on Roosevelt has opened at 885 N. 157th Lane in Goodyear. Developed by Ascent Companies, the gated rental community features two- and three-bedroom townhomes with attached two-car garages, loft spaces and private courtyards. The project is now welcoming residents for immediate move-in.
12. MJ Harris Construction Services LLC completed a 21.3KSF expansion for Acadia Healthcare at Sonora Behavioral Health in Tucson. The project added 48 inpatient behavioral health beds along with patient care and support spaces, including nurse stations, treatment planning areas, activity rooms and medication rooms.
13. XPO Inc. opened a 51KSF service center at 7360 S. Sossaman Road in Mesa. The facility includes 86 dock doors and is expected to process approximately 165 million pounds of freight annually. The location is XPO’s second facility in the market.

14. A new 10.5KSF high-purity fabrication shop has opened in Peoria for ACCO Engineered Systems. The facility was built to support semiconductor and biopharmaceutical work and includes ISO Class 5 and Class 7 cleanrooms with welding capabilities.
15. The nearly 12KSF Chuck E. Cheese Adventure World at 2770 E. Germann Road in Chandler opened Oct. 1. Designed as an active-play concept rather than a traditional arcade, the facility features a two-story indoor play structure and multiple themed activity areas.
16. DCS Contracting Inc. completed a $2.9M widening project along Shea Blvd. between Palisades Blvd. and Fountain Hills Blvd. for the Town of Fountain Hills. The work added a new eastbound travel lane and included roadway reconstruction, storm drainage, traffic signal improvements and new pavement markings. Kitchell served as construction manager, and Kimley-Horn was the design partner. Construction began in February and was completed in October.
17. The Arizona Department of Transportation reopened US 160 east of Kayenta after completing critical repairs to a flood-damaged section near Dennehotso. Crews reconstructed approximately 80 feet of roadway and completed drainage, pavement and striping improvements after heavy rain and flooding closed the highway Sept. 16. Minor work, including permanent striping, is expected to continue for approximately two weeks.
18. The City of Surprise opened Spark Surprise, its new Business Development Hub at 14462 W. Elm St., Suite 143. The facility is intended to serve local businesses and entrepreneurs with access to business-development resources and partner organizations.
