    Awards & Accolades

    1. The Arizona Department of Transportation’s 4.5-mile State Route 24 extension in the southeast Valley has received a regional Best Projects Award from Engineering News Record, which honored SR 24: Gateway to the Southeast Valley in the Highways/Bridges category among projects in Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada. The project was designed by Stanley Consultants and constructed by FNF Construction, in collaboration with the Maricopa Association of Governments, Maricopa County and the Town of Queen Creek.

    Groundbreakings

    2. Construction began on Lanai, a 444-unit multifamily community in Buckeye. Holualoa Companies and Countrywalk Community Developers partnered on the development, and WORKSBUREAU designed the project.

    3. The City of Surprise began construction on a new 19-acre development that includes an aquatic center, park and fire station. The complex is expected to cost $69.4M and to be completed in swimming season 2025.

    4. Bret Tarver Terrance, a 96-unit apartment complex project, broke ground on unused school land in Maryvale area of Phoenix. The project is expected to be delivered in early 2025. The development is part of a partnership between Isaac School District, Phoenix IDA, developer UMOM Helping Hands Housing Services, the Arizona Department of Housing, Maricopa County and City of Phoenix.

    5. Gorman & Company and the City of Globe partnered to redevelop Hill Street School into Hill Street School Apartments. The redeveloped complex will offer 64-unit apartments featuring studio, one-, two- and three-bedrooms serving seniors (55+).

    6. Trilogy Investment Co. has broken ground on Encanto Villas, an 84-unit townhome community in Avondale on Encanto and Avondale Blvd.

    7. ADOT has begun construction on improvements to SR 347 (John Wayne Parkway) in Maricopa. Construction is expected to end in summer 2024 with an estimated cost of $7.28M. The construction includes adding a third northbound lane, curb, gutter and sidewalk along the east side of SR 347.

    Progress Reports

    8. American Battery Factory has delayed the start of construction on its $1.2B project in Tucson. Construction was delayed by nearly two months to complete additional site work.

    9. ADOT is a year into the I-17 improvement project along a 23-mile strip from Anthem Way to Sunset Point north of Metro Phoenix area. Paving, rock blasting and earthwork will continue into 2024, with expected completion in 2025.

    10. Work is ongoing as Hyatt Hotels Corp. continues the renovation of Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Gainey Ranch, a 492-room hotel. The estimated renovation cost is $110M and the final project will be rebranded as the Grand Hyatt Scottsdale Resort & Spa. The project is expected to be completed in late 2024 with the owner, Xenia Hotels and Resort, funding the renovation.

    11. JLL Capital Markets announced financing for The Base, Phase I a 7-building logistics development for $96.5M in Glendale. JLL represented the borrower, ViaWest Group getting the loan from Bank OZK. Construction is expected to be completed in Q4 2024.

    12. The new Maricopa police station and courthouse projects continue to progress. Water, sewer and electrical utilities are in place at the police station, and work is underway to pave the parking lot. The project is scheduled for completion in April. Roofing at the courthouse is approximately 75% complete, and perimeter fencing and structural work are ongoing. The facility is expected to deliver in January.

    13. After a massive fire, The First Baptist Church will be reopened next spring in downtown Phoenix as the Monroe Street Abbey event and restaurant hub. BTS Event Management is one of the first to sign a lease in Monroe Abbey, which will also include Fresh from the Kitchen.

    14. After a delay in getting a necessary electrical panel, East San Luis Community Park is expected to be ready in December 2023 for Phase I in Yuma. The project costs have exceeded the original estimates of $10.3M, but the project is committed to deliver as planned, even if done in several phases.

    Completions

    15. The $280M Drought Pipeline Project, a 9-mile pipeline restoration project in Phoenix, completed in August 2023.

    16. After two years and $33.5M, the City of Scottsdale has relaunched the Scottsdale Civic Center. Inaugural events will run from Oct. 3 through Nov. 22 in Old Town Scottsdale.

    17. Omni Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Montelucia in Scottsdale finished renovations and now offers more than 100KSF of indoor and outdoor meeting/event spaces. The multimillion-dollar renovation began in June 2023, transforming 293 guest rooms and 38 luxury suites.

    18. ACOYA Shea a 147-unit apartment complex for senior living opened in Scottsdale. Ryan Companies US, Inc. and Cogir Senior Living developed the project.

    19.ADOT completed pavement repair on I-17 from Dunlap Road to Deer Valley Road. ADOT used Diamond grinding techniques to assist in the repairs to smoothen, preserve and make the asphalt more durable. Construction started back in summer 2022 and took a year to complete.

    20. LGE Design Build announced the completion of the Immedia Southwest Experience Center, a new 32KSF office building in Scottsdale.

    21. Ware Malcomb announced the completion of the new Scottsdale headquarters ofLessen, a 25KSF project. The general contractor was Stevens Leinweber Construction Inc. and design was by Ware Malcomb.
