    The City of Buckeye released two general obligation bonds to be voted on by residents in November.

    Question One regards Proposition 494 and asks voters if Buckeye should be authorized to issue and sell $137M in general obligation bonds for public safety improvements.

    Funding would go toward a new public safety headquarters for the City, as well as modern training facilities and new fire stations in the Westpark and Victory neighborhoods.

    If approved, the police and fire headquarters would serve as the base for Buckeye patrol, special operations and criminal investigations. It would serve as an emergency operations center that could accommodate laboratories and detention holding cells.

    The Victory Fire Station No. 708 would be built on a 1.5-acre site west of Verrado High School and north of Indian School Road.

    Westpark Fire Station No. 706 would replace the current interim facility in the neighborhood.

    Question Two regards Proposition 495 and asks voters if Buckeye should be authorized to issue and sell $145M in general obligation bonds for street/transportation improvements.

    If approved, funds would be delegated to widen Indian School Road from Jackrabbit Road to Perryville Road with additional lighting introduced along Sun Valley Parkway near the Tartesso and Festival neighborhoods.

    The City would also designate funds for widening additional streets to eliminate bottlenecks and rehabilitation projects for damaged roads.

    Other projects funded by Proposition 495 would be:

    • An additional lane in each direction with a dedicated middle turn lane on Miller Road from Broadway Road to Warner Road;
    • Two northbound lanes on Watson Road from Lower Buckeye Road to Durango Street;
    • A lane in each direction on Jackrabbit Trail from Thomas Road to Indian School Road; and
    • The installation of new traffic signals throughout various intersections in the previously mentioned projects.

    The bond would be funded through a secondary property tax at a $0.65 rate. The median Limited Property Value in Buckeye would expect the annual cost of the property tax to be $115. (Source)
