Groundbreakings
1. HonorHealth broke ground this week on an expansion project at HonorHealth Deer Valley Medical Center. The expansion, located at 19829 N. 27th Ave. in Phoenix, will be completed in phases and represents an investment of $170M. Construction is scheduled to begin this summer, with the entire project slated to be completed in 2025.
2. Empire Group of Companies recently broke ground and construction is now underway on its latest Build-to-Rent community in Peoria. Village at Pleasant River, located at 115th Avenue and Happy Valley Road, will include 246 single-family, single-story homes for rent.
3. Salt River Project, Plus Power LLC and officials from the City of Avondale broke ground this week on a new large-scale battery facility—Sierra Estrella Energy Storage. The facility will store up to 250MW, or 1,000MWh, which will serve SRP customers during times of peak electricity demand and facilitate the integration of renewable resources into the SRP power system.
4. Construction will begin next week on the City of Sedona’s shared-use pathway along Dry Creek Road between Two Fence Trail and Thunder Mountain Road and connect to an existing path on Dry Creek Road. Completion is expected this fall.
Completions
5. The University of Arizona marked the completion of construction and opening of the $85M, 89KSF Applied Research Building at the SEC of Helen Street and the Highland Corridor. The project was delivered via a progressive design-build partnership between integrated design firm SmithGroup and general contractor McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. The ARB is the first building in the country to house all research spaces related to the fabrication and testing of satellites in one integrated facility.
6. Mountain View High School held a ribbon-cutting to celebrate the completion of its $50M campus renovation and modernization project on East Brown Road in Mesa. The project was designed by SPS+ Architects. CHASSE Building Team served as CMAR. The project won the 2023 RED Award for K-12 Education Project of the Year.
7. LGE Design Build, in partnership with Clarius Partners, announced the completion of Phase One of construction at Chandler Airpark Technology Center, a 26.29-acre industrial development on the SWC of Gilbert and Ryan roads. Designed by LGE Design Group, the first phase features two buildings at 130.6KSF and 97.1KSF. Phase Two is now under construction and includes two additional buildings at 114.3KSF and 88.8KSF. The project is expected to be completed in November.
8. Porter Kyle announced the opening of the 95-unit The Prescott at Park West community in Peoria. The luxury development, designed by Porter Kyle architects and developed by Porter Kyle Builders, is actively leasing. MEB Management Services will be managing the lease-up.
