After a recent set of changes in its ownership and management, and having completed $7M in upgrades to its meeting facilities last year, Sanctuary Camelback Mountain Resort & Spa is planning a multi-million-dollar series of renovations that will begin next summer.
A local news outlet reported Sanctuary’s announcement and said the work will be conducted under a joint partnership between Berger Holdings and RJ Hospitality.
Starting in summer 2027, all 110 guest rooms and casitas will undergo interior design and renovations to modernize the spaces. Completion is targeted for September 2027.
After the accommodation spaces are updated, work will start in 2028 to update the spa and food service offerings.
Hart Howerton, a design firm with specialties including resort and hospitality projects, has been selected as the architect.
Another local news outlet reported an institutional investment partnership that included Arizona-based Berger Holdings bought the resort in 2021 for $85.34M. Some partners left the group over time, and RJ Hospitality signed on to partner with Berger in 2025. Management was changed to local ownership and operations in February 2026.
While the resort owners have not officially disclosed the estimated costs for the renovations and upgrades, an investment analysis website posted an article Sept. 14 saying the planned room and spa components would cost a total of $23M.
