    Awards & Accolades

    1. PK Associates received the 2023 Best Project Awards for three of their projects from ENR Southwest. The Beam on Farmer in Tempe received Best Project Office/Retail/Mixed-use. Mortenson Arizona Headquarters in Tempe received Best Project Interior/Tenant Improvement. Finally, Insight Headquarters in Chandler received Merit Award Interior/Tenant Improvement.

    Groundbreakings

    2. American Battery Factory broke ground on its new headquarters in Tucson. The structure is expected to be 2MSF.

    3. Wespac recently broke ground on 4 projects.

    • Atlas Surprise Pointe, a 274KSF industrial shell in Surprise is developed by Panattoni Development and designed by Cawley Architects;
    • Park 91 a two-building totaling 279KSF industrial shell in Phoenix developed by Martens Development Company and designed by Ware Malcomb;
    • Marbella Northern Parkway Phase 1, a five-building development with three of the buildings totaling 445.5KSF of industrial space. Panattoni Development developed the project and Ware Malcomb was the designer, and
    • ViaWest Cove Logistics, a 100KSF industrial building shell in Phoenix developed by ViaWest Group and designed by Deutsch Architecture Group.

    4. Trammell Crow Company broke ground on the first phase of the Cotton Lane Commerce Park in Goodyear. Phase I will include the delivery of two Class A industrial facilities for a total of 542.9KSF in addition to pad-ready improvements to a 30-acre development site served by the Union Pacific Railroad. Completion of Phase I is scheduled for September 2024.

    5. Yuma County broke ground on its future 100KSF Administration Services Building, a three-story structure. The Board of Supervisors, Office of Management and Budget, Election Services, Financial Services and other services will be housed within the facility. The expected completion is early 2025.

    6. The Foothills Food Bank and Resource Center broke ground on a 15KSF campus in Cave Creek. It is expected to be completed at the end of 2024 with 3KSF of the space being used for Cave Creek’s water department.

    7. Diamond Children’s Medical Center will host a groundbreaking event on October 27 for the construction of the Diamond Children’s Play Zone, a 7KSF therapeutic recreational, play, healing and learning space for hospitalized children. Designed by Shepley Bulfinch and built by DPR Construction, the Play Zone will open to patients and their families in summer 2024.

    Progress Reports

    8. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. is on track to begin production at its Arizona chip factory in the first half of 2025. TSMC broke ground on its $40M construction in Phoenix in 2021.

    9. Intel marked a milestone on the initial portion of the cleanroom that will be “weather tight,” and the “blow down” phase has begun on its Ocotillo campus in Chandler.

    10. The Global Ambassador, a 141-room hotel in Phoenix’s Arcadia area, has set an opening date for December 6th. Sam Fox of Author & Edit Hospitality and Brian Frakes of Common Bond Development are the developers. The Mediterranean Rooftop is expected to open Dec. 27as the final restaurant for Global Ambassador.

    11. Concrete pours took place on both sides of the new Colorado River Bridge (also known as the Laughlin-Bullhead City Bridge) between Bullhead City and Laughlin, Nev. over the past week. The project is planned for completion in February or March.

    Completions

    12. Westpac has completed three projects:

    • Exeter 29th, a 191KSF warehouse space designed by Deutsch Architecture Group for EQT Exeter.
    • Ancona Surprise Pointe 33, a two-building, 157KSF industrial project designed by Deutsch Architecture Group for E&V Investments located in Surprise, and
    • VT202, also a two-building industrial project totaling 179KSF and designed by Butler Design Group for Van Trust Real Estate.

    13. Phase I of the Novus Innovation Corridor’s creative office campus along Rio Salado Parkway, Rio Yards I, is now complete. The project was built by Wentworth Property Co. and will ultimately comprise 450KSF.

    14. Greenlight Communities recently held a grand opening event for Cabana Bridges, a 288-unit affordable housing community and the company’s first project in Tucson. Holualoa Companies provided investment capital for Cabana Bridges. Western Alliance Bank provided the construction financing. Greenlight Construction acted as general contractor, and Worksbureau was the architect of record.

    15. CaliberCos Inc. completed The Commons, a 144-unit housing complex. The complex consists of 12 three-story buildings offering one- and two-bedroom units. Cardinal Capital Management and MEB Management Services managed the leasing.

    16. A New Leaf recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its West Valley Housing Assistance Center on Grand Avenue in Surprise. The facility features seven apartments available for up to four months at a time for families transitioning into long-term housing, along with an on-site resource center for support services.

    17. Horses Help, which provides adaptive riding and horsemanship services for people with disabilities announced it has moved into an 11-building, 10-acre ranch at 6525 E. Dixileta Dr. in Cave Creek. Industry partners that helped in the move include Sigma Contracting, Muscular Men Moving, Resolute Construction and Martin Brothers Construction.
