    Groundbreakings

    1. According to information from Lee & Associates, eight different industrial projects have broken ground in the East Valley so far in the month of August. They are:

    • Midway Commerce Center,
    • Chandler Airpark 202,
    • Chandler Airport Business Center,
    • Hub@202,
    • Met 202,
    • Gateway Grand,
    • Power Industrial, and
    • Advanced Industrial Center.

    2. A.R. Mays Construction has begun work on Moderne Arrowhead. The 182-unit residential development is situated on approximately 9.40 acres at 67th Avenue and Greenway Road in Glendale. The residential units will be designed as two- and three-story structures and will be located in 12 separate buildings.

    3. Merit Partners, along with First Industrial Realty Trust and Diamond Realty Investments, have broken ground on Phase One of C|303, an industrial logistics park at Loop 303 and Camelback Road. Phase I of C|303 spans almost 113 acres and more than 1.75MSF. Construction on Phase I begins this month and includes three buildings totaling 376KSF (Building A), 420.5KSF (Building B) and 958.8KSF (Building C). Building C is slated for completion by July 2023, with the other two buildings expected to be completed by September 2023.

    4. Ending a six-year construction pause, Ameris Construction recently broke ground on Edison Midtown Phase II, a 60-unit multifamily development on Central Avenue in Midtown Phoenix. Phase I opened in 2018. The developer is Tannin Developments.

    5. Iron City Polaris recently held a groundbreaking for its new two-story, 30KSF ATV dealership on North Pinal Avenue in Casa Grande.

    6. Portable Practical Educational Preparation Inc. announced work has begun on the new 2.8KSF Amado Youth Center at Kay Stupy Park in Amado.

    7. The Phoenix Police Foundation this week announced the kickoff of its capital campaign to raise $550K to renovate, remodel and upgrade the victim’s center at the Phoenix Police Department’s Family Investigations Bureau on North Central Avenue. The renovation came about through the joint efforts of the Phoenix Police Foundation, Phoenix Police Department, and the Phoenix Mayor and City Council. The goals of the project are to create warmer interview rooms and add more privacy with a pass-through entryway into the forensic nurse examination rooms.

    Completions

    8. Arizona State University’s Media and Immersive eXperience Center, also known as the ASU MIX Center, in downtown Mesa has opened to students after 2.5 years of construction and $100M invested by ASU and the City of Mesa.

    9. On Aug. 11, the Arizona Department of Transportation opened the latest four-mile stretch of its $77M extension of SR 24. The new section runs between Williams Field Road and Ironwood Drive along the Maricopa and Pinal county line.

    10. On Aug. 11, Edkey Inc. – Sequoia Schools announced the opening of Sequoia Pathfinder Academy. The elementary and secondary schools are located at Verrado Way and the I-10 in Buckeye. The 35.7KSF facility was built by Willmeng Construction and designed by Neil Pieratt of SPS+ Architects.

    11. Visiquest Properties reports the grand opening this week of 59 Evergreen, an apartment and townhome development at 59th Avenue and Butler Drive in Glendale. Pono Construction served as GC.

    12. McCarthy Building Companies has finished construction on the Science Complex project for South Mountain Community College. The $13.6M project featured the renovation of two existing buildings and a new Physical and Life Science Building of 19KSF.

    13. Maricopa County and the City of Peoria have opened the new 711-foot Deer Valley Road Bridge serving automotive, pedestrian and cyclist users across the Agua Fria River at Deer Valley Road and 109th Avenue.
