    Groundbreakings

    1. Construction has begun on the 40-unit Mountainside Residences condo community in the Ascent at The Phoenician development. Planning is underway for the 60-unit Camelback Residences, the next phase in the development.

    2. Banner Health recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for its Banner Sports Medicine Scottsdale facility. The three-story, 80KSF center will welcome and serve athletes at all levels. The $54M project is part of Alter Group’s Riverwalk at Talking Stick mixed-use development.

    3. A.R. Mays Construction announced a May start date for construction of Aileron by Moderne, a $44M, 287-unit apartment development in north Phoenix for developer Trimod Aileron Property, LLC (Moderne Living). MVE + Partners is the project design firm, and delivery is expected in March of 2024.

    4. A.R. Mays Construction announced it has begun work on 303 Logistics, a 377KSF, $27M project in the West Valley for developer Barclay Group. Butler Design Group serves as architect on the project, which is expected to deliver in June of next year.

    5. DCS Contracting has started roadway improvements on Queen Creek Road – Ellsworth Road to Crismon Road for the Town of Queen Creek. The project will provide four through lanes with a median turn lane, sidewalk, curb, gutter, bike lanes, drainage management features, streetlights and landscape. Dibble Engineering is the design engineer.

    Progress Reports

    6. Supply chain issues have caused developers to push back the planned opening of the 37-acre Cannon Beach mixed-use theme park development in Mesa. The project was originally intended to open this month, but developers are now hoping to open before the end of the summer.

    Completions

    7. Tempe Streetcar has overcome its final supply chain challenges and is scheduled to begin service May 20th.

    8. SRP celebrated its expanded sustainable energy service last week with an event showcasing the newly operational 100MW Central Line Solar plant, located in both Eloy and Coolidge. Central Line Solar is owned and operated by The AES Corporation and is the second project developed by AES to serve SRP’s Sustainable Energy Offering.

    9. Northern Arizona University recently marked the opening of its new 72KSF, $46M Student-Athlete High Performance Center. DLR Group designed the facility, which was built by CORE Construction. The new training center is the first NAU athletics facility partially funded through alumni and former student-athlete contributions.

    10. Barrow Neurological Institute has opened the five-story, $42.5M, 130KSF Barrow Neuroplex on the Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center campus in Phoenix. Devenney Group designed the project, and Kitchell served as the general contractor.

    11. The $41M Desert Sunrise High School in Maricopa is nearing completion and will be ready for freshman and sophomore classes in July.

    12. Hospice of the Valley has opened its $25M, 141KSF Dementia Care and Education Campus on 3.2 acres on 44th Street in Phoenix. Lizard Rock designed the facility, which was built by PCG Construction.

    13. A.R. Mays Construction has announced the completion of FMIT Duplexes, a 24-unit, $10.5M development for the Fort Mohave Indian Tribe in Mohave Valley. Perlman Architects served as the design firm for the project, which broke ground in June of last year.

    14. Redden Construction recently completed the new 32KSF Copenhagen Imports Showroom at 2000 S. San Tan Village Pkwy. in Gilbert.

    15. The Aloha, a classic but run-down Arizona motel, has been transformed into a modern 26-room boutique motel for the modern traveler. Design firm Goodlooks was hired to preserve and update The Aloha’s mid-century style. The redevelopment work was performed by J-Squared Construction.
