    Awards & Accolades

    1. Mattamy Homes‘ Saguaro Trails community in Tucson was recently recognized as the Community of the Year at the Southern Arizona Home Builders Association 2022 Awards.

    Groundbreakings

    2. SkyBridge Arizona broke ground on SkyBridge Building 109, the developer’s latest addition to its 435-acre mixed-use project immediately adjacent to the runway at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport in Mesa. Building 109 is the first of two 250KSF, Class A manufacturing/warehouse/logistics buildings that SkyBridge plans to break ground on at Gateway Airport during the first half of this year

    3. Trilogy Investment Company, in a joint venture partnership with Cimbra Partners LLC (through its subsidiary Cimbra Investors Encanto, LLC) has broken ground on seven acres of land at the corner of Encanto Blvd. and Avondale Blvd. in Avondale. The 84-unit Build-to-Rent community will be called Encanto Villas.

    4. La Posada Communities broke ground on its La Posada at Pusch Ridge in Oro Valley after a five-year pause in development. The community was originally to be known as Nakoma Sky and was planned for 200 senior independent- and assisted-living housing units. The project has now been broken into multiple phases for efficiency, with the first phase comprising 166 units.

    5. Sterling Real Estate Partners has begun its project to turn the former Hotel Tucson City Center near downtown Tucson into a 212-unit apartment development to be known as Presidio Palms Apartments. The project will also include another 154 units on excess land at the site. The first units are expected to deliver in the summer.

    Progress Reports

    6. The first phase Salt River Project’s Southeast Power Link, an installation of 100-foot towers and 230kV and 69kV power lines in Mesa and Queen Creek, is taking shape between Elliot and Power roads along the Loop 202 freeway. At full buildout, the power transmission project will span a total of seven miles.

    7. As part of its ongoing data center development on South Everton Terrace in Mesa, EdgeCore Internet Real Estate has acquired 15 acres of land from Meta Platforms Inc. for approximately $1.2M. Multiple phases of EdgeCore’s development are under construction, and the overall project is expected to reach 1.2MSF upon full buildout.

    8. Mortenson recently tilted panels on Pursuit Park, a 640KSF, three-building industrial speculative building complex in the Elliot Road Technology Corridor in Mesa. Pursuit Park is designed to accommodate future growth, with a second phase that will include a fourth building adding up to 300KSF feet to the available space. Mortenson is both the builder and the developer. The project was designed by Ware Malcomb.

    9. The Mesa Planning and Zoning Board recently approved the preliminary plat for Gateway Technology Center, a seven-building industrial and commercial development at the NWC of Elliot and Signal Butte roads in Mesa. The project has been under construction since September.

    10. Construction is ongoing at the 40-unit Phase II of Clarendale Arcadia, a luxury independent and assisted living senior community developed under a joint partnership from Ryan Companies, Life Care Services and Harrison Street. Upon completion this spring, the development at 3233 E. Camelback Road will provide a total of 248 units. Phase I opened late last year.

    11. Construction is ongoing at the DraftKings Sportsbook facility across from TPC Scottsdale. The only sportsbook located on a PGA Tour site, the 40-kiosk, 400-seat facility is expected for completion in October.

    12. Renovations continue at WJM Enterprises LLC’s Lake Biltmore Corporate Center near Metrocenter Mall in Phoenix. The center totals 102KSF, and work began last year on one of the two buildings, totaling 30KSF. Completion for that portion is scheduled for Q2. Stevens-Leinweber Construction serves as the general contractor. iDESIGNS is the architect. Colliers’ Philip Wurth is the exclusive leasing broker for both buildings.

    13. The ongoing effort to renovate 18 properties’ facades in downtown Mesa will enter into its second round using funding provided under the federal American Rescue Plan Act. A third round using congressional funds is also planned.

    Completions

    14. Wood Partners announced the grand opening of its newest luxury residential community, Alta Cooley Station, in Gilbert. The community features 248 apartment homes, providing a mix of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom floor plans, as well as townhomes with attached garages.

    15. Life Storage at The Grove, an 82KSF storage facility by Hibernia Capital Advisors, has opened in Phoenix’s Camelback Corridor. The facility is part of RED Development’s $300M The Grove at 44th Street & Camelback master plan.

    16. Developer Michael Pollack has completed the latest round of renovations at Glenfair Plaza, an 83.5KSF retail center at 59th Avenue and Bethany Home Road. Improvements include refacing the stonework and stucco, new paint and tile roofing, updated lighting and landscaping, upgrades to the parking area and new glass storefronts.
