    Awards & Accolades

    1. BOMA Greater Phoenix held its 2021 The Outstanding Building of the Year – also known as TOBY – Award presentation recently at the Scottsdale Resort at McCormick Ranch, honoring five buildings. They were judged on community involvement and site management to environmental and “green” policies and procedures.

    This year’s winners (by category, building name, management company, property manager):

    • 100,000 to 249,999 SF: Three Gateway, Bridge Commercial Real Estate, Janalee Jackson;
    • Earth: GSA Professional Office Building, Ryan Companies US, Amanda Forsmo;
    • Industrial: Lighting Unlimited, A Brighter Idea, Cory Schneider (building owner);
    • Medical Office Building: St. Joseph’s Westgate Medical Center, Davis Southwest, Kathryn Rhinehart;
    • Renovated Building: 201 E. Washington, Transwestern, Monica Greenman.

    Groundbreakings

    2. Phase I of Luke Logistics Center at Loop 303 and Glendale Avenue has broken ground. The project, developed as a joint venture between CA Industrial and DWS/RREEF, will build four buildings totaling 1.5MSF.

    3. FCL Builders and Phelan Development Company recently broke ground on Phelan Mesa Gateway, a five-building industrial/flex product in the popular Mesa/Gateway area. The property is represented by Chris McClurg and Ken McQueen of Lee & Associates.

    4. Habitat Metro and MEB Management Services broke ground last weekend on ECO Mesa, a sustainable living apartment complex in the heart of Mesa.

    Completions

    5. The first wing of Mesa Hangars, a 1.5MSF, $65M development at Falcon Field Airport in Mesa, recently opened its first phase of office and aircraft hangar space. Phase II should be completed in early 2023.

    6. Personal airplane manufacturer Cirrus Aircraft recently opened an innovation center in Chandler focused on aviation electronics, electrical and software engineering.

    7. The Copper Canyon Fire and Medical Station No. 83 in Camp Verde was completed in August. FCI Constructors completed the project in just more than a year. It includes a four-bay, pre-engineered metal building of 9.5KSF with a 500SF mezzanine.

    8. The 271KSF Kentwood 303 industrial development at the NEC of Bethany Home Road and Cotton Lane in Glendale is complete. The development will span two buildings and has 28’ clear heights, 6000-amp power availability, 28 truck wells and extensive grade level doors throughout a 200’-wide truck court. Kentwood 303 is being billed as, “The first mid-bay, multi-tenant industrial development to rise within Phoenix’s Loop 303 Corridor.”

    9. Ativo Senior Living has opened Ativo of Yuma, a 79-unit  assisted living and memory care community in the Fortuna Foothills submarket of Yuma.

    10. FedEx Ground now has a 425KSF regional sort facility at the Prologis Commerce Park in Goodyear. The facility currently has 37 employees and is looking to hire 113 more.

    11. Planet Fitness Inc. will add two new outlets in the Valley, including one in a newly built 30KSF location at Gilbert Warner shopping center.
