    Groundbreakings 
    1. Johnson Carlier broke ground on the Southeast Justice Courts and Adult Probation for Maricopa Court. Located at 222 E. Javelina Dr. in Mesa, the 109KSF facility will triple the amount of space of the existing building and allow for additional operations, administrative support, and adult probation space. The $27M project was designed by Gould Evans and is expected to be completed in early 2022. 
    2. Benjamin Franklin Charter School, Waltz Construction and Orcutt | Winslow broke ground on October 6th for the new 26KSF Fine Arts auditorium facility on the campus in Queen Creek. Construction is scheduled to complete in spring 2021. The project consists of a hybrid-building that will include an 850-seat auditorium and performing arts theatre. 
    3. A joint venture among Harrison Street, LCS and Ryan Companies has broken ground on Clarendale Arcadia, a 248-unit senior living community just southeast of 32nd St. and Camelback Rd., Phoenix. Ryan Companies has started demolition and utility infrastructure work. Phase one will be completed summer 2022 followed by phase two in winter 2022. ORB Architecture LLC is the design firm. 
    Progress Reports 
    4. The Arizona Department of Transportation will open up the state’s first major Diverging Diamond traffic interchange at Interstate 17 and Happy Valley Road in north Phoenix on October 11th. The majority of the reconstructed interchange will open in a temporary configuration as part of a phased plan. Some lane restrictions will be in place on Happy Valley Road and the I-17 exit ramps until all work is completed later this fall.  
    5. The Opus Group, along with joint venture partner Principal Real Estate Investors, announced the opening of the leasing center and clubhouse of Paradise @ P83, a 330KSF, 352-unit multifamily development in Peoria. The full project is slated for completion in the spring of 2021. MT Builders is the general contractor and Dekker / Perich / Sabatini is the architect of record. 
    6. Glendale will see three new luxury car dealerships open in the coming months. A Volvo dealership is slated to open in December and a pair of Land Rover and Jaguar dealerships are scheduled to open in February, all near Loop 101 and Beardsley Road. 
    7. Banner Casa Grande Medical Center’s Emergency Department is expanding, and construction progress was shown in a recent open house for doctors and staff. Construction began at the beginning of the year and is expected to finish by the beginning of the summer 2021. 
    8. Two projects at Park Central in midtown Phoenix are still going strong. The new Creighton University Health Sciences Campus is well underway, with Plaza Companies serving as developer and the facility is scheduled to be complete in April 2021. Construction is also well underway on the nine-story, 278-unit Aspire Park Central multifamily project, which is being developed by The Dinerstein Companies. 
    Completions 
    9. Intel Corp.’s $7B expansion in Chandler, called Fab 42, is now operational. Between its two campuses in Chandler, Intel now has close to 900KSF of manufacturing space. Fab 42 connects to Intel’s three other fabs at the Chandler plant, making the site the chipmaker’s first megafactory network. 
    10. Sundt Construction, Inc. recently completed work on the 26KSF Valleywise Health North and South Metro Ambulatory clinics. The North clinic is located on the SWC of 19th Ave.e and Northern Ave., and the South clinic is on the NWC of 35th and Southern Ave. DWL Architects & Planners, Inc. was the design firm. 
    11. The new 10-story, $33.5M, 551.7KSF precast parking structure for Park Central is now complete. The structure, developed by Plaza Companies and Holualoa Companies in partnership with the City of Phoenix, brings more than 2,000 new parking spaces to midtown Phoenix. Kitchell Contractors was the general contractor, and the design firm was GLHN Architects and Engineers. 
    12. The $106M Banner Boswell Medical Center Emergency Department expansion, located at 10401 W. Thunderbird Boulevard, Sun City, opened to patients on October 6th. The new department increased capacity from 42 to 56 beds and allows it to care for up to 60,000 patients annually. McCarthy Building Companies was the general contractor and HMC Architects was the design firm. 
    13. An opening date has been set for the final two pieces of the $1.7B South Mountain Freeway project. The Arizona Department of Transportation has set Monday, October 19th for the opening of the 32nd Street Interchange and the 6-mile multi-use path along the freeway’s southern edge. 
    14. KB Home announced the grand opening of Heartland Ranch, which features affordably priced single-family homes situated in a premier-master-planned community in Coolidge. 
    15. The Arizona Department of Transportation finished construction of the new $30M traffic interchange on Interstate 10, west of Loop 101 in Avondale. It began in mid-February 2019 and took 14 months to complete. The City of Avondale currently completing its portion to connect Fairway Drive to the interchange, which is expected to be complete in January.
