Groundbreakings
1. A groundbreaking ceremony was held for the Ross Aviation Hangar at the Scottsdale Airport on June 1st. The $13M project will include a 50KSF hangar, plus 20KSF of support space. The project, which is being built by JE Dunn Construction and designed by DWL Architects, is planned to be complete in the first quarter of 2022.
2. The Crystal Lagoons Island Resort, an 11-acre lagoon and hotel mixed use development, to be located in Glendale, is expected to break ground in the second week of June. ECL Glendale, LLC is the developer.
Progress Reports
3. The Tucson Convention Center Improvement Project continues to move forward and evolve with more upgrades and new meeting rooms added to the original plan. The current focus includes the completion of the new TCC meeting rooms which is expected to be complete by the end of 2021. The Metropolitan Pima Alliance (MPA) has also recognized the Tucson Convention Center (TCC) Improvement Project and its partners and collaborators as a 2021 Common Ground Award finalist.
4. Crews have installed bridge girders at the future Jomax Parkway interchange as part of the Arizona Department of Transportation’s project to widen Loop 303 north of Happy Valley Parkway. Twenty-eight steel-reinforced concrete girders, each weighing approximately 180,000 pounds, were recently lifted into place to provide support for a bridge deck that will carry Loop 303 over Jomax Parkway when the entire $20.3M project is completed in early 2022. Point Engineers is the design firm and Sunland Asphalt is the general contractor.
Completions
5. Agate Construction has completed construction of an expansion and remodel of the Chapman Collision Service Center, located at 5031 S. Kyrene Road, Tempe. The remodel of the existing building included developing the existing paint area into new warehouse space and exterior work. The 8KSF expansion houses three new paint booths and two new prep stations. The architect for the project is BRB Architects and the owner is Chapman Automotive Group.
6. The new Coolidge Aquatic Center is now open to the public. The new center features two pools, including an expanded competition pool for the high school, a rock-climbing wall, younger swimmers’ pool and playground, as well as a signature water slide that towers over the complex. The center was designed and constructed by Haydon Building Corporation and Sunrise Engineering Inc.
