    Groundbreakings

    1. Clayco recently broke ground on a 388KSF speculative industrial building in Glendale’s Loop 303 Corridor for developer Scannell Properties. In collaboration with architect Ware Malcomb, Clayco is on track to complete the project by fall 2021.

    Progress Reports

    2. Turner Impact Capital’s Turner Healthcare Facilities Fund will be the new real estate owner for New Freedom’s $17.6M behavioral health campus at 2532 W. Peoria Avenue, Phoenix. In partnership with Waltz Construction, New Freedom has launched a state-of-the-art behavioral health campus model of treatment programs in collaboration with Gold Canyon Heart & Home. The property was a 248-room 143KSF hotel-resort that is being converted into a behavioral health campus. Turner Impact Capital is also serving as construction manager for the conversion. Cushman & Wakefield Managing Directors Gino Lollio, Scott Niedergang and Travis Ives worked with New Freedom and Waltz Construction joint venture to source a real estate investor to own the real estate and lease it to New Freedom long-term.

    3. Scottsdale Development Partners is nearing completion of a $1.5M renovation to the Cave Creek Shopping Center. The renovation is still underway, and the roof tiles and monument sign will both be replaced in the next few weeks.

    4. The installation of improved lighting in the Interstate 10 Deck Park Tunnel north of downtown Phoenix has reached a milestone as the Arizona Department of Transportation completed work inside the westbound side of the tunnel. ADOT will finish the ongoing $1.4M project this summer when crews install additional replacement fixtures on the ceiling of the eastbound side of the tunnel.

    Completions

    5. Johnson Carlier Construction recently completed construction on the new 66KSF Mohave County Superior Court, which is located east of the existing courthouse, which was built in 1915. The two courthouses are now connected by an enclosed corridor, preserving the history and integrity of the existing courthouse by making it part of a new complex that will offer better services, security, access, and modern technology to all visitors. The architect on the project was Dick & Fritsche Design Group (DFDG).

    6. Phoenix Rising FC’s new 10,000-seat stadium located on the Gila River Indian Community just south of Phoenix was recently completed. The team, led by Willmeng Construction as the general contractor, began work on the facility in September of 2020 which includes two full practice fields, green space, locker rooms and club office. The team also consisted of The Gila River Indian Community, Sunbelt Holdings, Wild Horse Pass Development Authority and trade partners Rummel Construction, Inc., SiteWorks, Hawkeye Electric, Degan Construction, LLC. and EPS Group, Inc.

    7. George Oliver has completed the renovation of The Alexander, a 112KSF office building at 25 S. Arizona Place, Chandler. As part of the transformation and in response to COVID-19, George Oliver enhanced its renovation plan to include “touchless” accessibility with 10-foot sliding glass entry doors, motion sensor restroom doors and fixtures, and touchless drinking fountains. It also upgraded the building’s main HVAC systems and elevators to optimize air quality and functionality.

    8. Gateway Hotels Partners, LLC, a commercial real estate joint venture between Barney Family Investments, Inc. and Peak Hospitality, LLC, announced it has completed construction on the 98-room, 55KSF Holiday Inn Express & Suites at 5530 S. Power Road in Gilbert. The architect was Dekker Perich Sabatini, and the general contractor was Porter Brothers Construction.

    9. Tucson Electric Power Co. will turn on the 100-megawatt, 1,130-acre Wilmot Energy Center on the city’s southern fringe. The project was built and owned by NextEra Energy and includes 30MW of linked battery storage to bank solar power.
