    Boards & Commissions

    1. Arizona Speaker Russell “Rusty” Bowers has appointed Port of Tucson CEO Mike Levin to the Rio Nuevo Board. Levin’s term began this month. In other Rio Nuevo news, Mark Irvin has resigned from the Board after 12 years.

    2. The Greater Casa Grande Chamber of Commerce has named a new Chair and Board Members. Brian Gardanier, Arizona Public Service Co., is the new chair, replacing Ole Solberg, Solberg Engineering.

    Board leaders are:

    • First Vice Chair Brian Kellar, Banner Casa Grande Medical Center;
    • Second Vice Chair Matt Herman, Norris RV, and
    • Treasurer Daniel Tartakovsky, The Promenade at Casa Grande.

    Board members are:

    • Duncan Wiston, Alluvion Communications;
    • Travis Snider, Cactus Mine;
    • Craig McFarland, City of Casa Grande;
    • Daniel Mendoza-Lamb, Legion Protection Agency;

    Company News

    3. The Surety & Fidelity Association of America and the National Association of Surety Bond Producers have jointly developed and launched the surety industry’s new Contractor Bonding Education & Mentoring Program. This free program helps small, new, emerging, minority-owned and other disadvantaged contractors learn how to qualify for construction surety bonds. SFAA and NASBP have been joined by several leading construction trade associations to spread awareness of the new educational opportunity including the Associated Builders and Contractors, the Associated General Contractors of America and the National Association of Minority Contractors.

    4. Hanson Capital Group is starting to solicit $16M for its third investment fund, which should be filed this month. The company plans to close on $100M in industrial properties by the end of Q2.

    Promotions

    5. Gregory Byres has been named the incoming Deputy Director for Transportation and State Engineer for the Arizona Department of Transportation. Byres is a seven-year veteran of the Department, having served as a senior project manager, State Roadway Engineer and in his current position as Director of the Multimodal Planning Division.

    6. Lloyd Ramsey has been named Senior Principal at DLR Group. The company also appointed Ben Foth and Kathleen Fitzpatrick as Principals.

    7. Ryan Companies US, Inc. has promoted Rich Montague from Director of Construction to VP of Construction.

    8. Wendy Odom and Glenn Patterson have both been promoted to Director at ADM Group.

    9. Sundt Construction has promoted five employees in Building Group in Phoenix. The freshly promoted team members and their new titles are:

    • Sarah Owen, Business Development Manager;
    • Curtis Smith, Project Controls Manager;
    • Justin Gillies, Project Manager;
    • Josh Anderson, Project Executive, and
    • Nicolas Chavez, Senior Virtual Construction Engineer.

    10. McCarthy Building Companies’ education services group has promoted Carlos Diaz to Project Director.

    11. Richard Hewitt has been promoted from Operations Manager to District Manager, and Mauricio Ramos has been promoted from Area Manager to Operations Manager, for PCL Construction’s Civil Infrastructure Division based in Tempe.

    12. Terracon has promoted Jennifer C. Thies to Senior Associate.

    New Hires

    13. Institutional Property Advisors, a division of Marcus & Millichap, announced the hiring of Clint Wadlund and Art Wadlund to join the firm’s Tucson office. The team had previously worked at Berkadia Tucson.

    14. Haydon Building Corp. announced it has hired 23-year construction industry veteran Justin Newman as Executive Director, Building Division.

    15. Brandon Acosta has joined, and David Seese has rejoined, W.E. O’Neil Construction as Project Superintendents.

    Retirement

    16. Dallas Hammit, Arizona Department of Transportation Deputy Director and State Engineer, is retiring after a 22-year career with the agency. Hammit has the distinction of having the second-longest tenure in this position, having served in the job since 2014.
