    Awards & Accolades

    1. Achen-Gardner Construction has won a Build Arizona Award from the Arizona Chapter Associated General Contractors of America for its Carefree Water Consolidation CMAR project. The project was constructed for the Town of Carefree and the award was in the New Construction – Public, Heavy, $10M-$50M category.

    2. Achen-Gardner Construction has won the Ben Patton Luster Construction Safety Excellence Award from the Arizona Transportation Builders Association. The company’s submittal featured its work on the City of Phoenix’s Val Vista Transmission Main 4 CMAR Project, which presented unique safety challenges.

    Groundbreakings

    3. Chicanos Por La Causa broke ground on the $80M apartment complex The Residences at Mesa and Main, a 200-unit apartment complex in Mesa that also offers 19KSF of retail space. Construction is expected to last 15 months.

    4. The Arizona Department of Transportation began the replacement of two bridges on US-60 east of Superior. The combined cost is expected to be $44.7M. One bridge will span over Queen Creek and the other will cross Waterfall Canyon. Construction is expected to close the roadway for three days per week until autumn.

    5. Yavapai-Apache Nation began construction on Yavapai-Apache Homes VIII, a 40-home and youth center development in the Nation’s Tunlii neighborhood. Fourteen of the homes will be four-bedroom units, 14 will be three-bedroom units, and six will be two-bedroom duplex units. The homes will be available for low-income households.

    6. Thompson Thrift announced the groundbreaking of Lowe’s Home Improvement, a 130KSF retail store, which will happen in April. The company recently finalized the $9.25M site purchase in Maricopa.

    7. Willmeng Construction announced the groundbreaking for Sun Valley Academy, a 59KSF K-8 campus in Glendale. Morrison Education Group is the developer and Carhuff + Cueva Architects is the architect. Willmeng Construction is the general contractor.

    Progress Reports

    8. 29th Street Communities is on track for completion of The Residences of Apache Trail, a 201-unit Build-to-Rent community in Apache Junction. Construction began in May 2023 and is expected to be completed in November 2025.

    Completions

    9. Lucid Group Inc. completed the second phase of its Advanced Manufacturing Plant, a 3MSF facility expansion in Casa Grande. The AMP-1 expansion will focus on the production of Lucid Gravity, the company’s electric SUV, later this year.

    10. Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport has debuted its new $28M concourse. The project replaces a temporary four-gate concourse made of portable buildings. The 30KSF building added five gates to the airport.

    11. Sterling Real Estate Partners announced completion of the first phase of Presidio Palms Apartments, a 212-unit apartment complex that was renovated from an existing hotel in Tucson. The next phase will include an additional 154 units. The project has been awarded the 2022 Common Ground award by the Metropolitan Pima Alliance.

    12. Agate Construction completed the 35KSF aerospace structure for Virgin Galactic at the Mesa Gateway Airport.

    13. Saras Micro Devices held a ribbon cutting for its new 33KSF headquarters and manufacturing facility in Chandler. Saras plans to expand the sites’ footprint to 43KSF by end of 2025.
