    Awards & Accolades

    1. The IPAZ, or Inland Port Arizona, was named the 2023 Project of the Year by the Arizona chapter of the American Public Works Association in Pinal County. The work that was honored included paving former farm roads, widening existing roadways and improving traffic by installing signals at the intersection.

    Groundbreakings

    2. Construction of Ocotillo Bridge, a $112M, 0.85-mile bridge, has begun in Gilbert. The bridge will provide Gilbert Fire Station No. 9 with an improved response time and give more access to Gilbert Regional Park. Construction is expected to be completed in summer 2026.

    3. Okland Construction and San Tan Development Group broke ground on Northside at SanTan Village, a $100M mixed-use project in Gilbert. The first phase includes six retail and restaurant buildings totaling 37.2KSF. Aline Architecture Concepts is the architect for the retail center. Western Retail Advisors is the leasing broker for the retail and restaurant buildings. Construction of Phase I is anticipated to be completed in mid-2025.

    4. Wespac Construction, Inc. broke ground on Papago Golf House, a 14.1KSF office building adjacent to Papago Golf Clubhouse and Pavilion in Phoenix. The building will serve as headquarters for several state and national golf organizations. Douglas Fredrikson Architects is the designer. Arizona Golf Foundation, City of Phoenix, Troon Golf, Papago Golf Club and Arizona State University are partners in the project. Construction is expected to be completed in spring 2025.

    5. The City of Avondale announced the start of the Cashion Improvement project, covering the area between 111th and 113th Ave, and Buckeye Road and Durango Street. The project includes waterline replacement, fence relocation and street light installation that is expected to be completed in late April 2025. Once the waterline and streetlight work are completed, asphalt and concrete work will begin.

    Progress Reports

    6. Arizona Water Company announced that the East Sedona Water Storage Facility is ahead of schedule and is expected to begin pumping water by the end of the year. When completed, the site will include a 1.5-million-gallon underground water storage tank with a 3,000-gallon-per-minute pump station.

    Completions

    7. The Phoenix Mercury opened the team’s new $100M, 58KSF practice facility in Phoenix. The facility comes with two basketball courts with 10 baskets, a full kitchen, a lounge area, two massage rooms, a wellness room and grooming stations. Okland Construction was the general contractor. Staden Architects and Gensler were the designers. Transwestern managed the project.

    8. Flagstaff Storage announced the completion of an expansion at Flagstaff Ranch Self Storage. The 43.8KSF addition brings the total to 211.2KSF. The expansion has added 74 enclosed RV and boat spaces to the facility. Flagstaff Storage plans on adding an additional 21.8KSF of fully enclosed RV and boat storage in 2025.

    9. Southern Cross Aviation has become fully operational following tenant improvements and modifications to its 23.6KSF Mesa facility, which will distribute parts and components to 10 international and regional airports in Maricopa County.

    10. The City of Somerton announced the completion of its $2.6M, 1.3 million gallon water tank, which is the City’s third. Yuma Valley Contractors, Inc. was the general contractor.

    11. The City of Goodyear announced the completion of a mural entitled, β€œGuardians of the Wilderness,” at Fire Station 182 in Estrella. The eight-panel was created by Kristine Kollasch of Fine Arts & Creative Environments.
