    Awards & Accolades

    1. Site Selection Magazine recently released its annual rankings for 2025. The Amkor Technology semiconductor chip packaging and testing plant was ranked as North America’s top economic development deal. Considerations included capital investment and job creation. Phase I is scheduled to be completed in 2028.

    Groundbreakings

    2. MODUS Companies broke ground on Avala, a 94-unit luxury rental home community at the NWC of 64th and Oak streets in Scottsdale. The project includes a mix of fully detached and shared-wall single-level residences. Completion is expected in fall 2027, with leasing to begin in spring 2027.

    Progress Reports

    3. Phase I of Pivotal Group’s $100M Hilton Phoenix Resort at The Peak renovation has been completed. The completed phase includes the renovation of the south tower, now known as the Ocotillo Wing, along with a redesigned lobby featuring a new bar, expanded indoor and outdoor gathering spaces and a grab-and-go retail concept. The wing’s 208 guestrooms have been updated with a residential design approach emphasizing comfort, space and modern finishes. Pool upgrades, including new cabanas, are also complete.

    4. The Arizona Department of Transportation project to reconstruct and widen I-10 from Kino Parkway to Alvernon Way is now 40% complete, as motorists begin using a newly constructed 1.3-mile segment of concrete pavement from Park Avenue to Country Club Road. The overall $600M project will widen three miles of interstate southeast of downtown Tucson. Major work completed to date includes installation of 82 bridge girders across five locations, abutments for the new Kino Parkway bridge over I-10 and initial work on a new interchange at Country Club Road. Construction is expected to continue through 2028.

    5. Traffic is now using the first of two new bridges over Cane Springs Wash as part of an Arizona Department of Transportation project to construct four miles of new divided four-lane highway along US 93 between Wikieup and Interstate 40. The $50M project, which is now 75% complete, is widening a two-lane segment between mileposts 106-110, approximately 13 miles north of Wikieup. The completed southbound bridge spans 132 feet. The second bridge is expected to open in late 2026 once roadway work is completed. The overall project is slated for completion in spring 2027.

    Completions

    6. A new 51.5KSF residential recovery campus has opened in Tucson, as Teen Challenge of Arizona, Concord General Contracting and Light + Path Architecture recently celebrated the ribbon cutting of the Tucson Men’s Center on May 1.

    7. The conversion of the former Tucson Heart Hospital into El Rio Health’s largest health center is now complete at 4888 N. Stone Ave. The 95KSF facility will serve up to 22,000 patients and is scheduled to open June 1. The former hospital sat unused for 14 years and was redeveloped by Meridian, Tenet Healthcare, BWS Architects and Barker Contracting.

    8. Dollar Tree has opened its new 1MSF distribution center in Litchfield Park. The climate-controlled facility will serve roughly 700 stores across the Southwest. Dollar Tree now operates 19 distribution centers supporting more than 9,240 stores throughout North America. The facility is part of the retailer’s broader supply chain initiative to modernize and expand its distribution network. Outbound deliveries are expected to begin in June.

    9. A ribbon cutting ceremony was recently held for Thompson Thrift’s 224-unit Refinery at Pointe17development in north Phoenix. Residents began moving into the facility near the end of 2025. The multifamily complex features one-, two- and three-bedroom homes.

    10. The 229-unit Avilla Bella Caminoin San Tan Valley is currently pre-leasing and is slated to open by the end of this quarter. NexMetro Communities developed the rental community at the corner of Gantzel and Bella Vista roads. The primarily detached homes will feature one-, two- and three-bedroom floor plans.

    11. Target reopened its store in Promenade at Casa Grandeon May 17. The 127KSF Target store at 951 N. Promenade Pkwy. initially closed in 2016 due to decreased profitability.
