The Phoenix City Council unanimously authorized the purchase of a 9.2-acre property at the NWC of 67th Avenue and Baseline Road for the new Fire Station 73.

Currently, the site is occupied by a single-family home owned by West Royal Development Holdings LLC, with a full cash value of about $1.4M.

The new fire station will alleviate pressure on other fire stations, such as Fire Station 58, with the new station being planned approximately 3.5 miles northwest.

Last year, $500M was approved for general obligation bonds, including $214M designated for community safety. Among the fire-related projects covered under the GO bonds is a new fire station, Station 51, planned at 51st Avenue and Loop 303, and upgrades to three more. The stations scheduled for upgrades are: Station 7, 7th Street and Hatcher Road; Station 13, 44th Street and Thomas Road; and Station 15, 45th Avenue and Camelback Road.

The stations included in the bond package will have community program assistance staff to help respond to some emergencies. (Source)
