Having purchased the historic Arizona Inn on East Elm Street in Tucson last year, the new ownership group is looking to expand the property’s offerings with a new development made up of rental homes.
The plan calls for three single-family casitas and 25 townhome-style casitas. The townhomes will be a mix of one- and two-story structures. The rental homes are planned along Olsen Street in the SWC of the property.
The rentals will be owned and managed by the resort, and the design will coordinate with the Arizona Inn’s pink stucco and blue trim elements, according to owners’ representatives.
Project planners said the additional income generated from the market rate rentals will help support the resort’s long term financial viability.
Even though no public hearing is required for the proposed rental development to move forward, project representatives from the ownership team and The Planning Center have scheduled a neighborhood meeting for November to inform residents about the proposal and try to garner their acceptance.
Initially constructed in 1930, The Arizona Inn is listed on the Historic Hotels of America and the National Register of Historic Places.
The hotel owners are also planning to sell three parcels on Wilson Avenue and Elm Street for development as single-family homes. Proceeds from the sale will go toward improvements and upgrades at the hotel. (Source: Arizona Daily Star)
