Arizonaโs seasonally adjusted unemployment rateย increasedย toย 10ย percentย inย Juneย 2020,ย fromย Mayย 2020, according to the latestย reportย published by theย Arizona Office of Economic Opportunity.ย ย
The national rateย decreasedย toย 11.1ย percent fromย 13.3ย percent inย May. Inย Juneย 2019, the state had a seasonally adjusted rate ofย 4.8ย percent, and the national was atย 3.7ย percent.ย
The state had a netย gainย ofย 19,700ย non-farmย jobs over the month. โHistorically (2010-2019), Nonfarm employment has averagedย aย lossย ofย 51,600ย jobs inย June,โ theย report states.ย Leisure & Hospitalityย hadย theย largestย netย gainย withย 34,000ย jobs, followed by Trade, Transportation & Utilities with aย gainย ofย 11,800.ย Constructionย lostย 900ย jobs over theย month.ย
Trade, Transportation & Utilitiesย took the top spot in job gains fromย Juneย 2019 toย Juneย 2020 with a total ofย 5,900, whileย Leisure & Hospitalityย took the top spot in job losses over the yearย withย 49,400.ย
The Construction sector features three major segments: Buildings, Heavy, and Specialty Trades. There are currentlyย 34,500ย jobs in Buildings,ย whichย decreasedย byย 100ย fromย Mayย 2020ย andย decreasedย byย 800ย fromย Juneย 2019. Heavy Constructionย lostย 700ย over the month for a total ofย 20,800ย andย isย upย 700ย fromย Juneย 2019. Specialty Tradesย lostย 100ย for the month atย 114,000, and the segmentย lostย 2,700ย over the year.ย
Construction jobs in the Phoenix Metro Area (Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale)ย decreasedย 900ย over the monthย for a total of 132,700.ย Theย Juneย 2019ย number wasย 135,300.ย ย
The Metro Tucson construction jobsย gainedย 100ย fromย Mayย for a total of 18,500ย and increased byย 500ย fromย Juneย 2019.ย
Yuma, Flagstaff, Prescott, Lake Havasu City-Kingmanย and Sierra Vista-Douglas combine Construction and Natural Resources jobs in reporting their job sector totals.ย Yumaย lost 100 over the month for a total of 2,500. Flagstaff,ย Lake Havasu City-Kingmanย and Sierra Vista-Douglasย remained at 2,300, 3,400 and 1,900 respectively for the month. Prescott gained 300 over the month for a total of 6,500.ย
