Arizonaโs seasonally adjusted unemployment rateย remained at 4.5ย percentย inย Februaryย 2020,ย fromย Januaryย 2020, according to the latestย reportย published by theย Arizona Office of Economic Opportunity.ย ย
The national rateย decreased toย 3.5ย percent fromย 3.6ย percent inย January. Inย Februaryย 2019, the state had a seasonally adjusted rate ofย 4.9ย percent, and the national was atย 3.8ย percent.ย
The state had a netย gainย ofย 24,300ย non-farm jobs over the month, whichย isย lessย thanย theย historicalย 10-year (2010-2019)ย averageย gainย ofย 25,100ย jobs.ย Leisure & Hospitalityย hadย the largestย netย gainย of jobsย withย 8,000, followed byย Governmentย withย 7,300.ย Of the 11 sectors tracked, Natural Resources & Mining had the smallest net gain with 100 jobs.ย
Education and Health Servicesย in Arizonaย took the top spotย inย job gains fromย Februaryย 2019ย toย Februaryย 2020ย with a total ofย 22,100, whileย Trade, Transportation & Utilitiesย came in second with 10,600ย and Leisure & Hospitality came in third with 9,500.ย Construction came inย fourthย withย 9,200.ย
The Construction sector features three major segments: Buildings, Heavy, and Specialty Trades. There are currentlyย 37,100ย jobs in Buildings,ย whichย increased byย 800ย fromย Januaryย 2020ย andย increasedย 3,600ย fromย Februaryย 2019. Heavy Constructionย gainedย 400ย over the month for a total ofย 21,100 andย isย upย 1,600ย fromย Februaryย 2019. Specialty Tradesย increasedย 2,100ย for the month atย 116,600, and the segment addedย 4,000ย over the year.ย
Construction jobs in the Phoenix Metro Area (Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale)ย increasedย 2,800ย over the monthย for a total of 138,000.ย Theย Februaryย 2019ย number wasย 130,500.ย ย
The Metro Tucson construction jobsย gainedย 100ย fromย Januaryย for a total of 18,000ย and increased byย 600ย fromย Februaryย 2019.ย
Yuma, Flagstaff, Prescott, Lake Havasu City-Kingman and Sierra Vista-Douglas combine Construction and Natural Resources jobs in reporting their job sector totals.ย Yuma, Prescott andย Lake Havasu City-Kingmanย gainedย 100 for a totalย ofย 3,100, 6,200 and 3,400 respectivelyย for the month.ย Flagstaffย andย Sierra Vista-Douglasย remained atย 2,300 andย 1,900ย respectively.ย
