The City of Phoenix has issued a Request for Qualifications for a Construction Manager a Risk for a $6.4M expansion and renovation project at the Children’s Museum of Phoenix.
According to the project description, “On behalf of the Children’s Museum of Phoenix, the City of Phoenix seeks to renovate and upgrade unfinished spaces in the historic Monroe School building. This building was originally constructed in 1913 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The Capital Improvement Project intends to develop and finish areas that comply with building codes to transition approximately 28KSF of building shell space to public exhibit/event and support staff spaces. In addition to the interior spaces, the selected contractor team may be asked to construct on potential exterior programming and exhibits to existing interior areas. The preliminary project schedule targets the pre-design/design for early 2025 and construction to start the Fall of 2025, with construction finishing the end of Spring 2026. This timeline is subject to change based on the outcome of the Pre-Design Phase.”
Local news outlets reported the museum recently received a $2.5M grant from Lilly Endowment, Inc. Another $5.7M is already committed, with funds having been approved under the City’s 2023 General Obligation bond request. The museum also plans to undertake a $14M capital campaign for new exhibits to occupy the expanded space.
RFQ submittals are due by noon on March 14th.
