Following a design revision that reduced the planned height from four stories to three, the Mesa Design Review Board has approved a design review and alternative compliance for a 124-room hotel and commercial projects west of the SWC of Recker Road and Longbow Parkway.
AZBEX previously reported on the Longbow Hotel proposal in our March 13 subscriber-only edition.
A local news outlet reported the updated plan was reviewed June 9 and affirmed on a vote of 5-0.
The original plan called for βa 124-key, four-story hotel and up to 4,100 SF of supporting retail/restaurant and patio (up to 550 SF) space, all of which will be designed as a cohesive, high quality development adjacent to the extensive open space of the Longbow Golf Club. It is anticipated that the hotel use, along with the site work for the entire Site, will be developed as βPhase 1β of the Project, with the retail/restaurant use itself developed as βPhase 2β.β
In this section of the updated project narrative, the major details remain the same, with the exception of the reduction from four stories to three.
The project is referred to as βLongbow Mixed-Use,β but given the small size of the retail/restaurant portion, AZBEX and DATABEX are only tracking the hotel component.
The original request sought a Council Use Permit, Bonus Intensity Zone Overlay and site plan review for the entire development. The updated request now only seeks a development plan. The developers have also submitted a drive-thru council use permit waiver.
The alternative compliance request dealt with an adjustment to the proposed parking to allow the development to better engage with the neighboring golf course facility.
