A five-story, 148-room hotel could be the next addition to the Cannon Beach master plan under a set of requests set to go before the Mesa Design Review Board this week.
Cannon Beach is a 60-acre surf park with a lagoon and supporting commercial and retail at the SEC of Power and Warner roads. While a Tapestry Collection by Hilton and an Aloft Hotel by Marriott are already part of the planned campus, a grand hotel immediately next to the lagoon area has been part of the plan since it was first proposed in 2020.
That component is now moving toward reality.
Requests submitted to the Mesa Planning and Development Department include a DRB review of the design and architectural character, alternative compliance for design standards and a special use permit to allow mechanical penthouse elements to exceed the current maximum of 65 feet, up to a total of 75 feet as needed.
According to the submitted narrative and other documents, the hotel will be built on a 1.32-acre lot just northwest of the wave pool lagoon area and will feature 148 rooms distributed across two wings. The ground floor will include the entrance and lobby, a signature restaurant, meeting and event space, and hotel operation support spaces.
The remaining floors will have guest rooms in a variety of configurations, as well as hotel operations spaces. The top floor will include a partially covered rooftop bar and event area with views of the surf lagoon.
In describing the architectural feel of the facility, the narrative says, βSandy, beach-inspired field tones are paired with wood-clad projections and accent elements to reinforce the arrival language throughout the building. Targeted integration of shade structures, seating moments, and surf-adjacent guest services (including surfboard valet nodes) supports both function and identity.β
The materials do not identify any major hotelier associated with the planned four-star development. Cannon Beach is owned by Cannon Law Group. The hotel design firm and project applicant is Mendil + Meyer. Landscape design is by LandArc.
