Groundbreakings
1. Banner Ironwood Medical Center broke ground on a more than 32KSF expansion at 37000 N. Gantzel Road in Queen Creek. The project will add a two-story building to the existing emergency department with an interventional radiology suite and pre- and post-op space and will expand the emergency department lobby. ARCHSOL is the architect, and Mortenson is leading construction. Completion is scheduled for December 2027.
2. Construction is underway on Basecamp, a $10M, approximately 16-acre recreation and community hub at Saddleback, a $1B, 5,300-acre master-planned community in Peoria. Collaborative Design Studio is the architect; RVi Planning + Landscape Architecture is the landscape architect, and Primak Construction Group is the general contractor. Castle Hill Partners is developing Saddleback. Basecamp is scheduled to open in summer 2027.
3. Bullhead City began Phase III of the South Supply Line project, which includes installing a waterline along North Oatman Road to connect a new well on Riverview Drive to a future water tower on Black Mountain Road. Kay Constructors LLC is building a new aeration basin and clarifier at the Section 10 wastewater treatment plant, where Bullhead City Utilities is also rehabilitating an existing clarifier. T.R. Orr, Inc. is building restrooms at Community Park, and McCormick Construction is working on a southbound turn lane from Highway 95 into the future City Centre development.
Progress Reports
4. The Arizona Department of Transportation opened a fourth westbound lane on Loop 101 between 51st and 75th Avenues as part of the $140M widening project between I-17 and 75th Avenue. The project is adding one general-purpose lane in each direction and includes bridge widening, interchange and ramp improvements, and roadway resurfacing. Construction began in September 2024 and is scheduled for completion in spring 2027.
5. The Arizona Department of Transportation completed a $19.7M pavement rehabilitation project along 24 miles of U.S. 160 between mileposts 416 and 440. Work included pavement replacement, guardrail and shoulder improvements, rumble strips, paved turnouts and improvements to the Walker Creek Bridge. The project began in March 2025 and was completed in partnership with the Navajo Nation.
6. Construction on a pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the Union Pacific Railroad tracks near State Route 347 in Maricopa is ongoing. Crews have completed the elevator shafts, bridge columns and piers, and are forming and pouring concrete for the bridge deck and side walls. The Arizona Department of Transportation is managing construction. The bridge is expected to open near the end of spring 2027.
Completions
7. Opus completed Envision 56, a 125.3KSF industrial development near North 56th Street and West Chandler Blvd. The 8.8-acre project in Chandler includes a 37.3KSF building and an 88KSF building designed for single users. Opus served as developer, design-builder, architect and structural engineer of record. Mark Krison and Luke Krison with CBRE are marketing the buildings for sale or lease.
8. Gilbert Public Schools completed maintenance, repair and renovation projects across its campuses during summer 2026. Work included tennis court and restroom repairs at Mesquite High School, asphalt repairs and gate modifications at Campo Verde High School, asphalt repairs and multipurpose room flooring renovations at Spectrum Elementary School, a playground renovation at Mesquite Elementary School, flooring replacement at South Valley Junior High School, kitchen renovations at Sonoma Ranch Elementary School, gate modifications at Gilbert Classical Academy, and audiovisual upgrades and renovations to the meats processing lab at Gilbert High School.
9. Glendale Community College will open STEAMworks, a 10KSF interdisciplinary innovation center, Sept. 17 at 6000 W. Olive Ave. in Glendale. The multimillion-dollar facility includes a virtual and augmented reality classroom and lab, and a fabrication workshop with equipment for digital fabrication, machining and welding.
