The Buckeye City Council discussed the annexation of more than 1,900 acres of agricultural land near Verrado Way and MC85 for an eventual industrial hub during its Aug. 26 meeting.
The prospective industrial center would cater to advanced manufacturing, data centers, battery storage facilities and similar industrial prospects.
If the agricultural land is annexed, it would combine with a portion of land already owned by the City of Buckeye that would total 2,271 acres. If the City were to pursue an industrial district, it could later rezone the entirety of the land as a Community Master Plan.
Ultimately, the nearly 2,300 acres would be made up of industrial, commercial and residential uses. The Planning and Zoning Commission is expected to consider the rezoning during its Oct. 28 meeting.
The project is currently labeled as the Grand View Arizona Community Master Plan. Several entities connected to the Vanderwey family are listed as property owners. Late last year, the family purchased a roughly 750-acre site near 19300 W. Yuma Road in Buckeye for $53M.
The location is near the Union Pacific Railroad’s east-west line, which is connected to the Sunset Route. Additionally, the site is near the Buckeye Municipal Airport and Phoenix-Goodyear Airport, as well as the planned State Route 30. (Source)
