    Awards & Accolades

    1. The NAIOP Arizona Chapter hosted its annual Best of NAIOP awards ceremony at JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort & Spa. The award winners in the Projects category were:

    • Economic Impact Project of the Year: Yuma | 143;
    • Industrial Build-to-Suit Project of the Year More Than 500,000 SF: 303 Crossroads/Puma;
    • Industrial Build-to-Suit Project of the Year Less Than 500,000 SF: Cutter Aviation – New Hangars at Phoenix Deer Valley Airport;
    • Industrial Tenant Improvement Project of the Year: AMPlify Sky Harbor;
    • Medical Office Project of the Year: Banner Sports Medicine Scottsdale;
    • Multifamily Project of the Year: AVE Phoenix Sky Office;
    • Office Build-to-Suit Project of the Year: Juggernaut Case Office;
    • Office Tenant Improvement Project of the Year More Than 50,000 SF: DoorDash Office;
    • Office Tenant Improvement Project of the Year Less Than 50,000 SF: Lessen, Inc.;
    • Redevelopment Project of the Year: Desert Medical Campus;
    • Retail Project of the Year: Village at Prasada;
    • Spec Industrial Project of the Year More Than 500,000 SF: Park303 Phase 2;
    • Spec Industrial Project of the Year Less Than 500,000 SF: Merit PLC | 2;
    • Spec Office Project of the Year: The Grove;
    • Sustainable Project of the Year: ECO Mesa, and
    • Transaction of the Year: The Ranch @ Power and Elliot.

    2. The Arizona Department of Transportation announced the honoring of late Dean Lindsey, a civil engineer tasked with managing the development ofthe I-10 Deck Park Tunnel and the final segments of the Papago Freeway north of downtown Phoenix. ADOT dedicated the I-10 tunnel in his name with signs on either side and a plaque at Margaret T. Hance Park.

    Groundbreakings

    3. Fortescue Future Industries announced initial work has begun on the $550M Arizona Hydrogen development, a 158-acre hydrogen hub project in Buckeye. The facility is expected to be operational in mid-2026 and is expected to produce 11,000 tons of liquid hydrogen annually. Fortescue paid $24M for the assets of Phoenix Hydrogen Hub LLC, a holding company for Nikola Corp.

    4. The City of Glendale announced the $40M renovations to Desert Diamond Arena are set to begin in June. ASM Global manages the arena. Nations Group, Anthony James Partners, HOK, AECOM Hunt and Forward Associates are working on the project. Construction is expected to be completed in February 2025.

    5. The Vail Unified School District announced the groundbreaking of Saguaro Creek K-8 school at the Rocking K Master Planned Community in Vail. Swaim Associates is the architect and Concord General is the general contractor. Construction is expected to be completed in July 2025.

    Progress Reports

    6. LV Collective, Kayne Anderson Real Estate and Pacific Life announced the closing of Rambler, a 289-unit student housing development in Tempe. The 552.4KSF project offers studio, one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom units. Construction is expected to be completed in fall 2026 in time for the 2026-27 academic year. Shepley Bulfinch is the architect. Layton Construction is the general contractor and Variant Collaborative is the interior designer.

    Completions

    7. Opus Development Co. announced the completion of the $100M Melody on Main, a 335-unit apartment complex in Mesa. Griffin Capital Partners provided financing, while UMB Bank provided construction financing. MT Builders was the general contractor and Opus AE Group was the architect. The complex offers studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom units.

    8. The Hampton Group, Inc. announced the opening of Eagle Ridge Apartments, a 208-unit apartment complex in Peoria. The 13-building community offers one-, two- and three-bedroom units. LB West Construction was the general contractor and Sketch Design Co. was the interior designer.

    9. Owner Driftwood Hospitality Management unveiled its $40M in renovations at Scottsdale Resort & Spa in Scottsdale. The renovations, which began February 2023, encompassed everything from guest rooms, dining, spa area and four new restaurants throughout the resort.

    10. American Furniture Warehouse has announced the opening of the new 122KSF showroom and 115KSF attached warehouse in Marana. The store will host a β€œbackyard barbecue” on June 8th to celebrate, with a portion of sales going to Marana Food Bank.
