    Awards & Accolades

    1. ViaWest Group received a CoStar Impact Award for its work to redevelop an existing office headquarters of Insight Enterprises into Sight Logistics Park, a 357KSF industrial space in Tempe. At the request of the City, ViaWest preserved, stored and relocated an artistic sculpture designed by Mark McDowell to be a landmark at the current industrial park.

    2. Arizona Forward honored the Scottsdale Civic Center and the City of Scottsdale with a Crescordia Award in Civic Buildings, Structures and Landscape Design. The award is the highest honor given in each category of Arizona Forward’s environmental excellence awards program.

    Groundbreakings

    3. The Arizona Department of Transportation announced the first stage of the Interstate 10 expansion project began on the Gila River Bridge north of Casa Blanca Road. The expansion will add a third lane and wider shoulder for each direction across the bridge. Construction is expected to be completed in 2026.

    4. Stevens-Leinweber Construction, Inc. began construction on Camelback 303 Logistics Center, a two-building industrial project totaling 616.1KSF in Goodyear. Building A will be 303.5KSF and Building B will be 312KSF. Brookfield Properties is the developer. SLC is the general contractor. Butler Design Group is the architect. Pat Fenney, Danny Calihan and Tyler Vowels of CBRE are the leasing brokers. Construction completion is expected at the end of 2024.

    5. RED Development and Globe Corp. announced a construction milestone at GSQ with the groundbreaking of Goodyear Way, the major street infrastructure connecting Goodyear Civic Square at GSQ to the 150-acre mixed-use development poised to become the city’s new downtown.

    6. Construction has begun on Northern Arizona University’s School of Hospitality Workforce Development, part of the 360-acre SkyBridge master development in Mesa. The school will consist of two 18KSF buildings. NAU plans to open in fall 2024.

    7. The Arizona Army National Guard broke ground on a new readiness center, to be built on 34-acres of land in Tucson. The facility will offer training and operations of the Arizona Army National Guard’s 222nd and 2220th Transportation Companies. Construction is expected to be completed in late 2025.

    Progress Reports

    8. McCarthy Building Companies and Architekton announced the topping out of Central Arizona College’s Superstition Mountain Campus in Apache Junction. The $40M, 51.6KSF expansion will include the Skilled Trades building and Allied Health building. Construction is expected to be completed in late 2024 in time for January 2025 classes.

    9. A topping off ceremony was recently held for the placement of the final beam at the Frontier Family Park Aquatic and Recreation Center in Queen Creek. The center will include various courts, a fitness area, a teen room, childcare and classrooms. Construction is expected to be completed at the end of 2024 or early 2025.

    10. As CMAR for the Central Mesa Sewer Interceptor Rehabilitation Project, Achen-Gardner Construction continues to work with specialty contractors to rehabilitate more than 10,000 LF of 30” to 48” sewer lines in Mesa. The project is set to increase long-term resilience and sustainability of the City’s wastewater system. Construction is expected to be completed in October 2024.

    11. Achen-Gardner Construction is near the estimated completion date for Detroit Basin and Gazelle Medows Park improvements in Chandler. Improvements include 34 manholes, 36 catch basins, more than 7,000 LF of storm drain installation, concrete/asphalt repair and more. Expected completion date is May 2024.

    12. The City of Surprise announced that the first three buildings of Surprise City Center are expected to be completed in the summer, with the next two buildings beginning soon after. Amazing Lash Studio, Jet’s Pizza, Lush Nails, Osteria Mia, Pita Kitchen and Tacos Chilango will lease spaces in the first three buildings with more space still available.

    Completions

    13. IndiCap, in partnership with AECOM-Canyon Partners, announced the completion of Phase I of Eastmark Center of Industry, a 978.8KSF industrial space in Mesa. The industrial spaces are broken into five mid-bay and cross-dock buildings. Layton Construction was the general contractor and Deutsch Architecture was the architect. JLL will lead leasing efforts.

    14. Wespac Construction, Inc. completed the first phase of Culdesac Tempe, a 44-unit apartment complex with nearly 24KSF of retail space and a 2.5KSF restaurant Cocina Chiwas in Tempe. DAVIS and Opticos were the designers.

    15. City of Phoenix announced the opening of Harvest Park, a 10-acre park in the neighborhood of Laveen. The park features a playground, two pickleball courts, a Bank Shot court, a basketball court and an amphitheater. The park was made possible by a $4M investment funded by impact fees.

    16. EoS Fitness has opened a more than 40KSF gym, its fifth location in Glendale, at 4355 W. Glendale Ave.

    17. Owner Gage Bowra has finished improvements and opened a 24/7 Fitness gym in Coolidge. The gym has 500 members signed up so far, and the owner is considering a future expansion.
