Amazon has filed presubmittal documents with the City of Mesa detailing plans for two new data centers, according to media reports.
The first proposed site is on nearly 43 acres next to the Apple Data Center at Signal Butte and Elliot roads. The second is on 71.3 acres on Pecos Road near the Legacy Park sports and entertainment complex.
The Pecos site was previously considered for a last-mile delivery hub known as Project Cork. The Elliot site had been planned as a 278KSF warehouse project known as Project Galway. Both have been listed as “On Hold” since last year.
The plans are nearly identical, with both detailing two data center halls of approximately 227KSF each. In fact, the materials for the Pecos site contain references to Project Galway, making it appear the information was cut-and-pasted between the documents.
It is not yet known if the company plans to build both or if is working with Mesa to identify which one would be the better option.
Amazon bought both sites in December 2021, paying $16.9M for the Elliot location and slightly more than $18M for the Pecos site.
