1. The Arizona Commerce Authority announced Arizona was awarded a prestigious “Gold Shovel” award from Area Development Magazine in the 6-10 million population category, marking the state’s third consecutive win. Considering economic development projects that were announced, commenced construction or operations in 2022, the Shovel Awards recognize states that “garnered large job-creating and investment projects through innovative policies, infrastructure improvements, and other processes that attracted new employers as well as investments in expanded facilities.”

2. The Site Selectors Guild has selected Carrie Kelly as its new managing director effective June 19. Kelly most recently served as the executive director of the Arizona Association for Economic Development.

3. Tower Capital has exceeded $1B in lending activity for build-to-Rent developments. Its financing efforts have contributed to the development of more than 6,000 BTR units in 35 developments.
4. The Big-D Heavy Industrial division of Big-D Construction recently marked its 1st year in operation. In the past year Big-D Heavy Industrial has expanded its industry expertise in wastewater, reclamation, refineries, smelters, leach pads, concentrators, and process plants, according to an announcement.

5. Gensler announced the appointment of Rory Carder to Co-Managing Director of Gensler Phoenix. Carder will work collaboratively in the new role with Martha dePlazaola Abbott.
6. The Weitz Company announced it has promoted Mina Wassef to serve as General Manager of its Southwest office, based in Phoenix. Wassef has been with the company for 10 years.
7. Haydon Building Corp. recently announced four senior-level promotions. The company leaders and their new positions are:
- Joe Malone: Executive Director, Civil Division;
- Heather Marin: Director of Operations, Building Division;
- Christian Davis: Director of Preconstruction, Building Division;
