Litchfield Park to Receive New Library

Litchfield Park City Council unanimously approved the construction of a library facility at the historic La Loma hilltop. This will replace the library at Wigwam Blvd. and Old Litchfield Road.

Residents expressed disapproval of the new library due to the old library’s historical significance and proximity to schools.

The new library will be an addition to a cultural complex that includes the P.W. Litchfield Heritage Center, Hilltop Park and proposed Agua Fria Arts Academy.

The proposal comes as officials want to expand the size of the library, create a larger program space and decrease turnaround time for books.

The proposed library will be 10KSF.

Litchfield Park and Maricopa County formed an intergovernmental agreement for the proposal in which the County will provide $5M for construction. The Maricopa County Library District is responsible for tenant improvements and the City is responsible for design and bidding.

Upon completion, the City will have ownership and maintain the facility along with the Maricopa County Library District.

The old library will not be demolished.

Construction is slated for next summer and is expected to be completed in fall 2026. (Source)
