RENTCafรฉ‘sย most recentย Apartment Construction Reportย ranks the Phoenix metro in third place for the projected number of units to be built by the end of year, an increase of 76ย percentย from 2020.ย
At national level, developers are set to bring 334,000 new apartments on the market, passing the 300,000ย markย for the sixthโฏyear in a row. There’s only a 2.5ย percentย drop compared to 2020, which is an impressive accomplishment after a period of uncertainty.ย

- Phoenixโฏmetro area is set to build 15,846โฏnew apartmentsโฏthis year,โฏreachingโฏaโฏfive-year high, and claiming the thirdโฏposition nationallyโฏwhen looking at projected apartment count.ย
- The jump is 76ย percentย compared to last year’s 9,022 units, andโฏa far cry from the lows of 2017โฏwhen only 6,758 apartments were built.ย
- Development booms across the area, asโฏPhoenix itself spearheads construction with 3,860 expected units.โฏMesa projections show 1,957โฏnew apartments,โฏGilbert โ 1,881, andโฏGlendale โ 1,667.ย
This year, the national podium is completed by Dallas-Fort Worth โ 21,173 units, and New York โ 19,375.ย
