Legacy Point Master Plan Adds to Area Change

As a long-standing family farm prepares to relocate following the sale of its land for an expansive new development on the border of Peoria and Glendale, more details are emerging as to what the Legacy Point Mixed-Use Master Plan will entail.

The land in Peoria will have 151 acres for single-family homes, 175 acres for industrial/employment development and 20 acres for a variety of other uses. Another portion is intended to be annexed into Glendale.

Shea Homes will handle the residential development, eventually putting in up to 500 homes. VanTrust Real Estate will develop the industrial portion, which will feature build-to-suit construction of buildings from 100KSF-600KSF, according to company representatives.

All the buildings in the development will follow a standard design aesthetic to promote a sense of unity and community, according to representatives.

Peoria officials have said the development of Legacy Point will provide new commercial and business opportunities for residents and draw new families into the area.

The land’s current owners, the Rovey family, have operated a dairy farm on the property for 80 years. Discussions with developers and local officials went on for years as growth encroached on the now-popular area near Olive, Northern, 75th and 83rd avenues.

With the decision to sell, the Roveys join noted Arizona farm families like the Hickmans and Pendergasts who sold their properties in Glendale years ago to make way for new development. The Roveys intend to start a new farm in a more rural location. (Source)
