The City of Tempe received one bid for the redevelopment of a 46-acre site near Tempe Town Lake that could become the home of a new mixed-use arena and entertainment district housing the Arizona Coyotes.
The team confirmed last week it submitted its proposal, and City officials confirmed the receipt of one bid, from Bluebird Development. Neither party elaborated on the content.
Tempe’s RFP sought a mixed-use development with a sports area, multifamily residential and retail.
City staff will now review the proposal and make recommendations to Tempe City Council. A contract could be awarded by the end of the year.
As the City and team work on an agreement, Tempe will relocate an operation currently on the site, and the Coyotes will likely be on the lookout for an interim location. Earlier this summer, Glendale opted not to renew its year-to-year lease with the team for space at Gila River Arena. (Source)
