The City of Avondale is seeking ideas from private developers about how to best develop 34 acres of city-owned land into a mixed-use development with office, hospitality, retail, residential and community amenities.
The area, which the city has named “The BLVD,” is at Avondale Boulevard south of Interstate 10.
Ken Chapa, economic development director for the city, (said) the BLVD is envisioned to be “the flagship development for our city.”
The city’s request for information asks potential developers to submit a project development plan containing some key features, including a central gathering area that will accommodate events and activities, a splash pad, pedestrian amenities, open-play space surrounded by retail, restaurants, a food court and other community uses. Plans may include phases for development, but the submissions must include plans for development of the entire site.
According to city documents, the Park Avenue District within the project is to be the core of the development, with cultural and entertainment-type uses, main-street retail or mixed-use office or residential. That district will be surrounded by other districts that are envisioned to contain office, hotel, retail, high density apartments, single family homes and other uses.
