    Groundbreaking

    1. Willmeng Construction has commenced construction on the expansion of BASIS Flagstaff. The 34.9KSF school will get an additional 30.9KSF. BASIS Schools is the developer, Chermack Consulting Group is the development manager, and Carhuff & Cueva Architects designed the expansions.

    2. Groundbreaking is planned this month for Surprise’s first In-n-Out restaurant.

    Progress Reports

    3. Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport will close its north runway Jan. 8 for repairs. The repairs are slated to run until Feb. 21 with construction crews replacing pavement on the runway.

    4. Christopher Todd Communities announced the opening of the leasing office at the company’s first single-family luxury rental home community at the SWC of Greenway and Litchfield Roads in Surprise. Completion of all units is targeted for March.

    5. Kim Anderson Design is moving forward on interior design work for The Square at Cadence at Gateway, Harvard Investment’s Mesa master-planned community. Groundwork for The Square has begun and Anderson’s team is planning the interior for the 12KSF community center set in a town-square type environment.

    6. The first interchange under construction in Laveen for the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway is taking shape, with a closure of Elliot Road at 59th Avenue allowing crews to make significant progress in a short time. After extensive earthwork, six large concrete piers are now planted in the future median of the South Mountain Freeway. More than 300,000 cubic yards of dirt has been moved to create bridge approaches and ramps. The piers will soon support a 272-foot, two-span bridge that will carry Elliot Road traffic over the South Mountain Freeway. Later this month, 26 concrete girders will be set on the piers to form the bridge.

    Completions

    7. Scottsdale Parks and Recreation and Human Services are partnering to build a brand new, state of the art, interactive, accessible playground at Chaparral Park, city officials say. A ribbon cutting ceremony for the refurbished park will be 4 p.m. Jan. 17 at 5401 N. Hayden Road.
