By Tasha Anderson for AZBEX Arizona’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased to 6.9 percent in February 2021, from January 2021, according to the latest report published by the Arizona Office of Economic Opportunity. The national rate decreased to 6.2 percent from January. In February 2020, the state had a seasonally adjusted rate of 4.9 percent, and the national was at 3.5 percent. The state had a net gain of 17,100 non-farm jobs over the month. “Historically (2011-2020), Nonfarm employment has averaged a gain of 25,400 jobs in February,” the report states. By Arizona Commerce Authority Intel has announced a substantial expansion of its Arizona-based manufacturing capacity with a $20B investment – the largest private sector investment in state history. The expansion will see the construction of two new semiconductor fabrication facilities, or fabs, which will produce advanced semiconductor chips used in modern electronics. If approved and signed into law, the measure will extend the Small Business Administration’s Paycheck Protection Program to May 31st. Data from the first quarter U.S. Chamber of Commerce Commercial Construction Index reveals contractors are growing more optimistic, mostly driven by a rise in revenue expectations. They also have better outlooks on hiring and equipment spending plans as business concerns related to the coronavirus pandemic lessen. In the first quarter of this year, 36 percent of contractors expect their revenue to increase over the next year, a jump of 11 percentage points from 25 percent in Q4 2020.
