A new 47-unit housing facility for the Kansas City Royals Major League Baseball team is being planned north of Greenway Road and east of Bullard Avenue in Surprise.
Harvey Badger Construction, LLC recently submitted plans for the four-story multifamily development, known as The Fountains at Surprise Center, and the project was heard at the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission meeting on April 27th.
The project will be located on Lot 8 of the Royals Housing at Surprise Center Plat. On March 17th, The Surprise City Council approved the Final Plat of the Royals Housing at Surprise Center which allowed the owner, Surprise Center Development Company LLC to subdivide the property into two parcels.
The Fountains at Surprise Center will include two, one-bedroom and 45 two-bedroom single-story units in a 54-foot high building totaling approximately 82.4KSF. The project will also include a 4KSF storage facility on the southeast portion of the site.
All colors and materials for the design of both buildings meet the PAD design guidelines requirements and, according to the project documents submitted to the city, “A large portion of the west elevation of the proposed storage building will be reserved for mural art that staff understands has not yet been commissioned.”
Amenities planned for the housing development include a community swimming pool, barbeque area with ramadas and fire pits. A primary open space area housing these amenities will be located on the south side of the site.
Access to the property will be from two new driveways on Saguaro Lane as well as pedestrian access from existing sidewalks along Bullard Avenue. A total of 102 parking spaces and 25 bicycle parking spaces will be placed close to both buildings for, “convenience of the residents,” and the site is planned to be well landscaped with various drought-tolerant plants.
