Multiple outlets are reporting on a Nov. 11 Arizona Commerce Authority announcement that consumer manufacturing powerhouse Procter & Gamble has announced it will build a $500M manufacturing plant in Coolidge.
The 2MSF project will be constructed on 427 acres in Saint Holding’s Inland Port Arizona logistics park.
P&G officials said 500 other U.S. sites were considered before the company finally chose Coolidge for what will be only the third domestic plant the company has built since 1971.
The projected construction start has been set for late next year, with operations expected to commence by 2025. The plant will produce a variety of the company’s laundry-related products and is expected to employ more than 500 people when fully operational. Reports say the plant is projected to have a 10-year economic impact of $38.4M for Coolidge.
The construction process is expected to need 1,000 workers, 70%-80% of which could be locally staffed.
Reasons for P&G’s selection of Inland Port Arizona include its location along the Union Pacific Railroad line and the fact that inland ports carry a U.S. Customs designation that enables direct international shipping and receiving.
City of Coolidge and Pinal County officials worked with P&G and representatives of IPAZ owner Saint Holdings, LLC to land the deal.
The City and County plan to work together on road and other infrastructure improvements to support P&G’s needs. There is also the potential for local job training via workforce development programs, officials said.
