A set of projects in south Phoenix that have been years in the making are expected to move forward with the approval of a new development agreement.
The Phoenix City Council approved a development agreement with Krause Interior Architecture, Inc. for a new Resource Innovation Campus near Lower Buckeye Road and 27th Avenue.
Undertaking the project as part of the C40 Cities Reinventing Cities Initiative, Krause will develop a 90KSF facility to convert waste into new resources. Krause officials said the goal is to enable companies to explore new technologies on the 20-acre campus. Work will be performed through public-private partnerships.
The facility is expected to function as a “resource cluster” that features research and development, workforce training and development, incubation and acceleration spaces, collaborative workspaces, office space and other functional areas.
The City of Phoenix first approved what will become the Resource Innovation Campus in 2015 to divert waste from the Del Rio Landfill.
The campus will feature a transfer station, a materials recovery facility, and a composting facility. Land leases will be made available for companies and business incubation efforts.
Agri-Food Innovation Center Agreement Updated
Council also updated agreements with Arizona Fresh Holdings LLC to revise timelines on the construction start for the planned $400M Agri-Food Innovation Center east of the Resource Innovation Campus.
Arizona Fresh Holdings will develop the project in partnership with Plaza Companies.
Construction is now required to start by October 2025.
The center’s more than 1MSF of developed area will feature a produce distribution center, a community park, a business park, retail space and a farmers’ market at 1150 E. Elwood St., the former Del Rio Landfill site. (Source)
