Mesa’s Elliot Road Technology Corridor may see a new data center campus on a 102-acre parcel at Elliot and Signal Butte Roads.

Sacramento, California-based RagingWire Data Centers is planning a flagship Arizona campus consisting of seven two-story buildings ranging in size from 165KSF-229KSF. The total development area for the project, dubbed PH1, is expected to be approximately 1.5M GSF.

According to the design narrative submitted to the City of Mesa, “Much consideration was taken to layout the buildings on the site to balance functional and aesthetic interests.” Buildings containing offices, loading dock and amenity areas will be placed near the perimeter of the site, while the larger buildings containing computer rooms will be placed toward the center of the site.

“One side of each building has an electrical infrastructure yard where transformers, back-up generators and electrical modules are located,” the narrative states. “Buildings and equipment yards are off-set from west to east. This arrangement will prevent the overheating of critical infrastructure equipment due to the west-east direction of the prevailing winds.”

Facades will vary in height, pattern and color with the use of louvered roof screens and sun shades. The buildings will be painted using desert colors, inspired by local mountains.

Access to the site will be from the SEC of East Elliot Road and a second entrance for construction and emergencies will be west on Elliot Road. Perimeter fencing and a multi-lane checkpoint will keep the site secure.

Other site improvements include utilities, storm water management systems, an SRP electrical substation and the addition of driveways to loop each building. Parking will be provided at the front of the site and loading docks with three bays will be located toward the back of the site.

The campus will be constructed in seven different phases, one for each building plus site improvements.

A special use permit for reduced parking was approved at Mesa’s Board of Adjustment meeting on October 2nd, and the project was heard at the Design Review Board meeting on October 8th.
