Axon Enterprise executives have to find a new place to build their planned headquarters after its plans fell through with the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.
On Oct. 10, Axon terminated the purchase and sale agreement of the land on which the facility would have been built on the NEC lot off Loop 101 at Talking Stick Way, according to an Oct. 15 U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission filing.
“We terminated the agreement because we were unable to secure design approval by the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community,” the filing said.
Its new building was planned to have a futuristic look much like Axon’s current headquarters in Scottsdale.
Axon anticipated paying $24M for the purchase, sale agreement and related prepaid rent for the lot near Talking Stick Resort and Topgolf.
“We will continue to explore other locations in the area to develop our new headquarters,” Axon spokeswoman Carley Partridge said in an email to the Business Journal.
In December 2018, Partridge said construction on the new building was expected to start in early 2020 and be finished by mid-2021.
Although plans have not been announced for the new headquarters, the company was looking to build a 325KSF manufacturing and production facility.
