The Arizona Cardinals are planning a more than $200M training facility and headquarters at the intersection of Loop 101 and Scottsdale Road in north Phoenix.
The Cardinals partnered with Mortenson to acquire 217 acres of land for $136M in the Arizona State Trust land auction that occurred earlier this year. The land was once considered for the Arizona Coyotes hockey team prior to the team leaving the state. Mortenson will serve as the general contractor.
ROSSETTI will be serving as the design architect for the facility, while Nelson will work with the broader Paradise Ridge Master Plan. (AZBEX, Aug. 26) ROSSETTI has worked on numerous projects for National Football League teams, such as the Jacksonville Jaguars, Atlanta Falcons and Green Bay Packers.
The Cardinals currently operate in a 156KSF facility on a 14-acre site in Tempe. The new building will exceed 250KSF and be constructed on a 30-acre mixed-use site.
The project features three natural grass outdoor practice fields, an indoor fieldhouse with turf, as well as training facilities, locker rooms and spaces for athletic training, sports medicine and conditioning. Additionally, the building will feature dining areas, meeting rooms and a lounge.
The Cardinals have operated a training facility in Tempe for more than 30 years. Cardinals Owner and President Michael Bidwill said Tempe does not have enough available land to keep the facility in the city.
The NFL team will be responsible for the development of essential infrastructure, such as water and sewer. Bidwill said this will amount to two miles worth of infrastructure that will “open up all the land to the west of us for development.”
Just last year, the team moved its office staff out of the Tempe facility into a 30KSF office space in a similar location. The new facility will unite both office staff and players.
The team has already been in the works with the City of Phoenix and the Arizona Commerce Authority on the campus. The remaining 187 acres of the site will be developed into corporate offices, restaurant/retail properties, medical facilities and residential buildings by a development company affiliated with the Cardinals.
Current plans call for a groundbreaking in 2026 and completion prior to the 2028 NFLseason. (Source)
