Maricopa County has approved a $16.7M agreement with NAC El Mirage Housing LLC to fund The Flats at El Mirage, a 45-unit affordable housing project planned on El Mirage Road in Surprise.
The package consists of $10.6M in American Rescue Plan Act funds and more than $6M from the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s HOME Investment Partnership Program.
Thirteen of the planned units will be non-congregate shelter spaces, providing short-term housing for residents waiting to transition into a permanent unit after completing a supportive service program. Resident families must earn 60% or less than the Area Median Income, which was approximately $87.6K in Surprise in 2022.
The development will also feature onsite programs and services. El Mirage Housing is seeking more than $4M from the Arizona Department of Housing to fund those measures, and the application is pending.
Total development cost is estimated at approximately $21M, including $13M in construction costs. The project is expected to start construction in August and to deliver by October of next year. (Source)
