Local subcontractors have an opportunity to submit scopes of work and be part of the $230M Talking Stick Resort Arena renovation. General contractor Okland, the Phoenix Suns and City of Phoenix are hosting a trade partner outreach event on Tuesday, December 17th, in the Arena Pavilion.
Registration is required for the free event.
The transformation of the Arena into a state-of-the-art sports and entertainment facility requires partnerships with subcontractors and specialty vendors. Carrying forward with the Suns’ tradition of keeping business local, Okland is seeking specialty trade partners and supply vendors needed for the major renovation of the Arena facility.
To qualify, firms must register with Okland through its subcontractor online sign-up process at Okland.com.
“Now that the renderings have been released and the design is public, we are excited to share more information with the local contracting community regarding upcoming opportunities on the Talking Stick Resort Arena renovation,” said Matt Richards, Okland, director of preconstruction. “This is an exciting project for the city and the entire state, and we are looking for a wide variety of trades that are excited to be part of something special. Because there is a lot of work to be done in a short amount of time, we are looking for different creative strategies and partners to help make the project a success.”
Okland says that some of the trades are already engaged, but the project has a long list of diverse opportunities for contractors, suppliers, vendors and interested businesses to undertake a project of this scale.
“Phoenix has hundreds of well-qualified construction trades and suppliers, and it’s important to the city to keep the business in the Valley,” said Christine Mackay, director, Phoenix Community and Economic Development, the city department administering the renovation program contracts. The Office of the City Engineer within Street Transportation is overseeing the renovation management for this project. “There is a wide range of opportunities for the trades, and this event levels the playing field for interested businesses.”
Work on the Arena renovation is already underway with site preparation as fencing begins to surround portions of the site. The renovation will take two years to complete, with major work underway after the Suns complete this basketball season.
Qualified firms are needed for demolition, roofing, drywall, structural steel and site utilities, to name a few from the long list. Material suppliers, including doors, glazing, fire protection, hardware, and more, are needed.
The Phoenix Equal Opportunity Department will also be onsite to help small business enterprises qualify for the city’s business enterprise opportunity programs. Companies do not need to be registered with Phoenix to submit scopes of work for Okland, but prequalification is required through Okland’s process. The city’s equal opportunity program allows businesses to qualify as a Small Business Enterprise (SBE), Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE), or Airport Concession Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (ACDBE) when proposing on any project involving city of Phoenix.
