BNSF Railway Co. applied in March of last year to buy more than 3,500 of land from the Arizona State Land Department at the NWC of SR 60 and 219th Avenue in Surprise.
A site appraisal from July shows the rail company wants to build a logistics park, logistics center and intermodal facility on the site, which will serve as BNSF’s western hub.
An auction has been scheduled for March 30th. Minimum bid price is $49.11M.
The land is adjacent to a 500-plus-acre site BNSF bought in 2004 and is currently zoned for rural residential. An annexation into Surprise or a Maricopa County rezoning to industrial with a major general plan amendment would be required for the development. (Source)
