According to the latest biannual “RLB Crane Index” from construction monitoring and advisory firm Rider Levett Bucknall, cranes visible across the Phoenix skyline tripled coming into the first half of 2020.
“Tripling its cranes since the last Index, Phoenix is experiencing a balanced expansion of building sectors, with mixed–use, educational, hospitality, and tech projects all currently under construction,” the Q1 2020 report states. “Activity is centered in Downtown, with some work located in the Midtown/Uptown area.”
The report tracks the number of tower cranes operating in 14 U.S. and Canadian markets. Overall activity is up across most markets, with Toronto leading the overall count, followed by Los Angeles. Seattle number decreased for the third consecutive survey.
Five of the key construction sectors monitored showed increases, four were unchanged, and six were down from previous survey levels.
